9800pro now or wait a little longer

Well, I am wanting to upgrade from my GF3 Ti200. I wanted to wait for the new x800 cards to come out. I found a 9800 pro on newegg for 175. Question is, should I go ahead and buy it at this price. Or are prices likely to go down anymore in like the next month?

The $175 card at newegg is 128-bit so don't waste your money on it. IMO the prices on the 9800 cards still have room to drop, so you could wait a bit longer. If it were me I would wait about a month then buy either an X800PRO or 6800GT (if it's available by then). Right now the X800 cards are selling higher than the MSRP which is a complete rip-off. I'm guessing they'll drop a good $100 in the next month or two.

It really depends on if you need it now or not. I recently bought a 9800Pro, because I couldn't wait for the new cards to drop down in price. By the time the new cards are available in quantity and the price points have settled down, I'll be back in school and won't be playing as many games. So, if you can, try to wait and see what the price points are going to be when all the new cards are available in quantity.

Go for it. Prices may come down $25 over the next months. Its only $25 or so and you get it now. Beware of 128bit. Go with a 256bit card only these days. Let us know what you do. Thanks
