9800Pro,4.7s,vsync,DXDiag,ATI Control Panel?

Finally upgraded from the 3.9s to the 4.7s last night and was having a helluva time doing it. After a couple hours, I finally realized I had to set Vsync to Application Preference instead of Always Off in Direct3D with ATI Control Panel or else the DX Diagnostic tests would run faster and the cubes would spin out of control. The only other settings I changed was setting TruForm to Application Preference. I only had time to test DXDiag and haven't tried any other benchmarks, games or playbacks. Is this a bug in the 4.7s or is this the case for all new ATI drivers?

Also, I noticed that ATI Control Panel has a lot less settings than Rage3DTweak. Should I just continue to use ATI Control Panel or is there something better? What are people's thoughts on this?

I've checked out the write-ups and other stuff about this control center, but I'll stick with the ATI Control Panel for now. Maybe with my next driver update of something. Thanks for the links!

Care to elaborate on that? To me it would seem that the drivers didn't install correctly and you're going to have trouble in DX games.

That is just because vsync was capping the framerate.

No, because I've installed drivers before and this happens even without changing any vsync or any settings. The cubes spin out of control, I uninstall and reinstall, then the cubes are fine. This is just what I noticed. So, TheSnowman, what you're saying is if I leave vsync at application preference with these 4.7 drivers, then the cubes will spin real fast or do I need to set it to always on?

By the way, BFG10K, thanks for the detailed elaboration. You're one of the many reasons I don't come here that often anymore.
