9800GT in mid-July

I've gotta ask, what's the point? THe 9800GTX is what's competing with the 4850. If they cripple the GTX to make the GT then obviously it won't compete with it. How much lower are they gonna price it?? The 8800GTS 512 already competes in the lower bracket. Also, it's another card to confuse consumers. Go figure.

To use up the chips that fail for making GTX+ cards:

G92b 55nm chip will end up crippled and some clusters on the chips will end up disabled.

I imagine NV would want to switch all g92 products to the smaller g92b, so that's the reason for the new revision. As to why they decided to call it a 9800gt is anyone's guess.

Because they will no longer be producing the 8800GT/GTS come mid July(if not all ready).

There is no point to have the 8800GT at the $129-$149 price point, when they can offer a cheaper to make version as the 9800GT at that same price point.

It seems to me that their product line up will look like this

sub $100 9600GT
$149 9800GT
$199 9800GTX
$229 9800GTX+
$399 GTX 260
$450 9800 GX2
$650 GTX 280

Those will be the MSRP, I can see several of those cards going for less with rebates.

Okay that makes more sense. I thought the 8800GT/GTS would still be produced since it's G92.

I also ezxpect the plain GTX to disappear in a few months if not sooner, leaving just the GT and GTX+ (moved down to $199).

Probably, since the move to 55nm may have cut power consumption. (If the core being used retains similiar stock speeds and spec of the 8800GT)
