anyone have any ideas of whats wrong?

just got a ati 9800 pro and i get a beep and then a blank screen. the card works because i tried it in my roomates pc.

i have abit kg7-raid mobo with 1800+ chip. not sure whats wrong. the lates bios update for the mobo doesn't seem like it would fix anything...

Did you remember to plug in the external power connector to the card when its in your machine? You must have in your roomates PC for it to have worked.

Sounds like it was not fully seated in the AGP slot,so try again to make sure it`s properly seated, you could try bumping the AGP voltage(if the bios as the setting) but you shouldn`t really need to do that.

hmm, i am not sure. I tried 3 times with getting it seating properly, plus i put a 9700 pro and it booted up fine. So i am thinking its my mobo (kg7-r) if anyone else has any ideas, let me know...thanks

You could have an almost bum card. If the 9700PRO works fine its not the PSU or the MB since they draw almost the same amount of juice, unless you have all kinds of light trinkets, and dohickies, and an the extra 3 or 4 watts that the 9800PRO requires is putting you over (looooooong shot).

I experienced the same sitatuation. I believe the KG7 is only AGP2X compatible. Your roomate's is AGP 4x/8x.

???

He is stating ATI makes nothing but bum cards. Now when I look at a discontinued motherboard and a never selling better video card, I tend to think it would be the motherboard. Don't you?

i am thinking that as well...i know the card works....but the card should work in my mobo, considering the specs say 4x compatible

Find out what version bios you have and see if you can update it. If you havent updated since you have received the motherboard, there is a good chance that it could be the problem.

i have updated the mobo to the current release, still no fix, i have used aftermarket bios and still no deal....i think it might be time to upgrade to AMD 64
