Is the 9800Pro softmoddable to an XT? I am looking at the Sapphire, and as it won't be a decision maker, I am still curious. I already use the omega drivers, but the way they word it, it looks like only the 9800SE is softmoddable to anything.

Thanks.

Edit: If I plan on overclocking, how does this compare to a regular 9800 Pro? I'll pay the extra 50 bucks to get it's clock speeds to an XT, if it will do it more stably. Text

Curious myself... I am going to get the 9800 Pro as well and I'd like to OC a bit... if it can be fully modded to the XT that would rule.

The XT has a thermal diode onboard to control the Overdrive. There are companies doing R360 (XT) based 9800 Pros though.
EDIT: Review of Sapphire 9800XT, 9800 Pro, 9800SE (all R360 based).

Use radclocker and overclock your Pro to XT speeds (412/365).

So are you saying all those sapphire cards can be flashed to xt? isnt the memory slower on some?

Will this require any extra cooling (ie, heatpipe or wahtever) or can I just OC it out of the box, and leave it on the stock settings?

I've never OCed before so this will be a first. :) I'm more interested in getting the FPS than I am from OCing my CPU.

How about $20? :p

Don't know, the heatsink looks to be the distinguishing factor (boxy one instead of the reference heatsink). The ones that have the same PCB as the 9800XT are the best candidates.

*DISCLAIMER* I own a GeForce FX5900, I have no experience with the Radeon 9xxx series other than the 9600 Pro.

EDIT: This is the 9800 Pro in the review, looking at the price, save your cash and just get a regular 9800 Pro and OC the crap out of it.

If I say yes, will you give me that gift card for $20? :D

I think all of the 256MB 9800 Pros are DDRII, but don't quote me on that.

Ive got one of the Saphite R360 core 256 meg cards. The heatsinks that come with them suck real bad. I threw a water block on mine and so far im at 445/415.

My 128mb Sapphire 9800Pro from the UK doesnt seem to have the Diode.

With stock cooling, I can hit 435/375ish. Artifacts seem to appear after an hour or so of gaming.... so Im guessing a cooling issue here. Looks happy at around 430/370 without any tampering. Not too shabby for stock cooling... 378/337.5 default.... 52/42.5 overclock cant be too bad can it?
