This might simply be a case of the CPU to GPU scalability.
It is quite normal to get negligible results from far higher spec graphics cards when using the same system.
Some people are quoting 30fps averages on high end CPUs which is in all honesty a fairly shyte frame rate for FPS gaming.
I have played the Doom 3 demo on my Emachines m6810 and it is pretty bloody awful really. Put it this way - I won't be running out to buy the full game.
Yes but not from a frickin jump from a gf4mx420 to a 9800 pro- and neone who says otherwise is talking BS 😛
and a quote here from a review of an emachines m6810
'Graphics on the M6810 used to be first rate but have since slipped. It is still powered by the ATI Mobility 9600 with 64MB of memory. This allows for acceptable support of DirectX 9 based games, but the speed drops off quickly with higher resolutions.'
There's an example of a top notch processor (for a laptop neway), with a pretty average kard (i saw about 1800 3dmarks on 03 quoted for that machine- i get low-mid 5000s on my 'crappy' 2600+ with my 9800 pro and 512mb 😛), i guess that you could get away with 800*600 medium if you were lucky~ doesnt even come close to the performance a 9800 pro gives you in any halfway decent set-up (and guess what, 512mb and a mid-low 2ghz intel(or amd xp equivalent), are what many people seem very happy to pair their 9800 pro with)- not sure whether u r bagging d3 for the gameplay and content, or simply the very average d3 experience you would have on that machine 😛
