9800 pro question

i guess ill have to take the card out, unless theres some software that can tell me. but what do i look for? its an ATI 9800 pro 256/256, and does XT speeds without a problem, but im trying to sell it and someone interested wanted to know what core the card used.

all help appreciated.

Ive had better luck with removing the stock sink, cleaning off the thermal goop, and readit the core type right off of the core. In my case, I have a R350 on an R360 board (mem arrangement, slim vga). Somewhat unlucky, but then again, My OC is stable at 420 core, 370 mem.

Hey xSauronx

I always understood the only way to definatively know your core was to pull the HS and have a look.

How does ATI Tool tell you the core?

Thanks

Fern

You can also use the "ATI Adapter Utilities" from the ATI website, there you'll have two different utilities that give you the type of core: ATI Info and ATI Report Wizard

ATI Adapter Utilities

Now then.... since I've noticed plenty users who know what they are doing, stating that the best way to know for sure is to dismount the HSF, I wonder if that report from software utilities can be trusted. Maybe even if the card has a R350 core, the 9800 PRO BIOS will make the software report it's a R350, and thus you'll have to dismount the HSF and check the core itself to know for sure.

If that's true then I'll have to take the time to dismount mine, 'cause I have an ATI 9800 PRO with Samsung chips (ATI Info reports it as a R350).

Cheers.

yeah, iv read the only way to really tell is pull off the heatsink. the progams just report what they are told to. i still havnt pulled mine off to see either.

Sorry. ATITool is NOT able to tell what core it is. It may say R350 in ATITool and still be an R360. The only way to tell what core you have is to take off the hsf and clean the silver paste off and read the etchings on the core.

yeah i have a Sapphire 9800 Pro Atlantis 128mb. ATi Tool reports it as a R350 but when i put on AS Ceramique, i read R360 on the core. funny.
