9800 pro question

My current system is currently using a g4 ti4600 and i was wondering whether or not i should upgrade to the 9800pro. and if i should upgrade to the 9800pro, then roughly how long will it be until the card become outdated? can i use the card for a year or two?

I would wait awhile until next cards come out. Since hopefully price will drop on the older cards. But yes card should be ok for a couple of years. Your still using a 4600 and that has been out awhile.

<whips out his crystal ball> jan 26 2005 14:32 GMT the 9800pro will become obsolete....

or maybe it was outdated when the 9800xt came out? or maybe when nv40 comes out? or maybe when the mainstream nv40 comes out?

people are stull getting by with ti4xxx's, radeon 8500's and older.. just depends on the resolution and framerates you're willing to accept.

i went from a 4200 to a 5600 ultra to a 9800 pro and i will never go back to nvidia again. the 9800 pro takes any game i throw at it at any resolution and makes childs play out of it. if you want to enjoy crisp gaming and video then get a 9800 pro if you have a chance to get a great deal on one. you wont regret it!

yeah man, the 9800 pro was head and shoulders above my 5600 ultra that i had. wasnt even close!

I am in total shock. When I was last shopping for cards, it came down to the 9800Pro and the 5600Ultra. Now, remember, the 9800 Pro had 4X as many pipelines, more tmus, much higher fillrate and memory bandwidth, but it was close.

I had heard rumours of some 5800 or 5900s, but I knew the 5600 Ultra was nVidia's top dog. I got a deal on the 9800 Pro at the time, it was only $379. and the 5600Ultra was a whole $169.99.

To this day I wonder what would have been if I could have gotten that 5600 Ultra.
