9800 Pro problem

I just purchased a retail Sapphire 9800 Pro 128mb Ultimate. When I installed the card last night (Asus P4S800D-E with P4 3.0ghz 800mhz), I immediately got "trash" (lines, blurred text, colored patches, etc.)through the boot sequence and in WinXP Home (SP1). At one point, 1/2 the screen in Windows was perfectly clear and the other side had lines. I tried messing with different drivers, rebooting, removing and reinstalling the card (and yes, the power supply was connected).

Since I'm getting the trash even before I get into Windows, I'm guessing I have a bad card. I checked with Asus and they have no reported compatibility problems with the 9800 Pro and my motherboard.

I don't suppose there's a bios setting that might be causing the problem? That's probably wishful thinking, but it's the only thing I can think of besides the card simply being bad.

Thanks.

Does the dsiplay corruption occur every boot or just "cold" boots? I had the problem only at cold boot. RMAed and new card is fine.

I have an Antec TruePower 430 PSU...

It does it every single boot...

I got a reply from Emailing Sapphire's technical support and the response was it sounded like a hardware defect. So, I got an RMA from NewEgg and I'll try again next week when I get the replacement.

Thanks.
