9800 GX2 vs two SLI 9800 GTX

I'm building a new rig and looking to either get:

(1) BFG Tech BFGE981024GX2E GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB (512MB per GPU) 512-bit (256-bit per GPU) GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

OR

(2 SLI) XFX PVT98FYDBU GeForce 9800 GTX Black Edition 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Would the GX2 perform better solo in comparison to Two of the GTX's running SLI? Money is not an issue.

Thank you

lol, by money being no issue, i should have elaborated... i don't want to spend a grand on graphic cards, but approx. $600 is okay

is GTX 280 a better choice than a GX2? should i rule out the SLI 9800 GTXs?

sli 260's = 480 + nvidia mobo

cf 4850's = 280 + intel mobo

cf 4870's = 500 + intel mobo

1 4870x2 = 550

ok i've decided i don't want to mess with SLI and want to get a single card

now what is my best option? am i looking at GTX280 vs GX2?

GX2 is more then technically, it IS sli... the GX2 and the amd 4870x2 (which isn't out yet btw) are two chips with a pcie bridge. splitting the 16x pcie lane into two pcie 8x lanes.
It just takes one slot, but having two individual cards each in their own slot always outperforms the single slot solution. (although the 4870x2 might change that according to rumors, not sure yet).

The GTX280 is the fastest single core out there.
The GTX260 and the 4870 tie for second place.

If you already have a SLI board then just go for the least expensive option, I don't think you will notice any difference. Though, if you are building a new system and looking towards the future then you might consider either HD4870 or a GTX280 (depending on your preference)

thank you for all the responses. i am building a new system and going with the ASUS Rampage Formula board. i have decided to purchase the GTX280

probably just going to purchase this one: EVGA 01G-P3-1280-AR GeForce GTX 280 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

I'm concerned that the SSC model of that card will run too hot

Plus, can always add a second card in future.

do I need a special power supply to run that card? I was thinking of purchasing: OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V Power Supply - Retail

I'm going to be running the GTX280, 2 hard drives, DVD burner...and not much else I think. Is it overkill? Maybe get the 600W version of the GameXStream?

Thank you.
