9800 GX2 ---- PSU Connection ???

I have a evga 9800 gx2 with a OCZ elite stream 1000 watt supply...Here is the link to:

The graphics card is calling for a 6 pin and a 8 pin power connector from the psu.
I have a ton of 6 pin pci express connectors...no problem....but I only see one 8 pin connector....and thats for the mobo ground? Am I missing something here?
I am also seeing a two pin connector on the side of the 6 pin on the pic express cable.

Any advice for the noob would be great.

Check and see if there is a 6 pin + 2 pin connector. Which would make it a 8 pin.

According to the Newegg specifications, it does.

It states this: PCI-E Connectors 4 x 6+2Pin

That's what an 8-pin PCIe connector looks like. They do it that way so they can also be used with cards that only require 6-pin connectors.

Ok....lets make I sure I got this right -- Essentially two pci-E connections go to the card.

9800 GX2 PS List- approved by Nvidia

Ok. let me save you some trouble. Call your PSU manufacturer in addition to consulting this list from Nvidia. While Myocardia is right about the 6+2 PCI connections this card is picky on PSU's. I had a PSU on the list that has since been removed and had 6 and true 8 pin PCI connectors. My system kept shutting down when I ran 3dmark after I got an x48 board. The pci-e 2.0 pulled enough power to shut down the PSU unlike my previous pci-e 16 board. Tried everything to figure out my issue. Ended up calling and talking to the man in charge of rating their PSU's and he told me that they were supposed to have been pulled from the Nvidia approved website because they couldn't handle the card even though they met the PCI connector requirements.

I don't see you PSU on the approved list so good luck. Make the call and save yourself a headache

Ahh, another victim of PSU "future-proofing."
