I considered it very thoroughly but after a long consideration, I decided to get a HD X2 to go along with a HD 3870.

So I will be supporting AMD for a while longer.

If nVidia's drivers are still just as bad as they have been all throughout the 8800's lifespan so far, I will probably never buy one of their products again. I don't know about you, but I'm sick and tired of my system crashing at least once a week from unstable nVidia drivers. I remember back when I had my 6800GT and the thing was rock solid...! Now I have to baby my PC to avoid crashes... videos open while WoW is left open? I'm tempting the fates.

Looking to step up myself, have about 30 more days on 8800Gt's that I paid around $270 each for.

Um? i guess I room with a roomate at purdue and he likes to keep it cold in here. It usually runs at around 18-20 but it has dipped down to 17 on both cores before. (also i know that i cant get below ambient but thanks for the heads up :))

but on subject I woke up at midnight hoping they would be up somewhere but they werent...so i basically got no sleep until i ordered my evga and 22" monitor

You only have 90 days from the date of purchase to step up unless you're getting the gx2 which allows for 120 days to step up. I briefly considered stepping up however I'm just gonna stay with my two g92 8800gts 512's in sli.

After looking at the specs for the 9800gtx I only see a few differences between it and my gts. 3 way sli capable and an increase in the memory clock seem to be all that separates it from the gts. Sorry nvidia but I'll keep what I've got thanks.

The 120 step up for that card tells me that it will be the best card for the $ until q4 08...

Good afternoon all!
Not to rain on anybodies parade, but I have heard this card is nothing more than an OC'ed 8800 GTS 512 with a re badge.
Again not bashing but thought some would like to know, as the 8800GTS 512 has only been out a little while.
I will be waiting for the 9900 GTX's, not to incite anything I'm Nvidia all the way just not into tossing money out the window either.

Regards all!

I'm waiting on the GT200. I don't care about any of the G80/G92 stuff at this point.

Yes, that's correct. The cards are identical except for a minor bump in the frequencies and tri-SLI support. Given that, it performs better than you would think, but I think that is mainly due to its updated drivers.

They have been in consumer hands for over a week now.
Frys had them in stock and sold them for 349.00

this was the BFG version.

but since I really need to upgrade this year and retire my aging 7900GT
I will prolly just get either SLI 9600s (will require me to pull my MB that I just bought last week)
Or just get a 8800 GT/S single slot.

If I had known what I know this week about the GTX and how well the SLI 9600s are doing I would have bought SLI from the get go.

With the price of many 8800GTS 512 cards falling sub $200, there is no way in hell a 9800GTX is worth the money unless you plan to use Triple SLI.

My 8800GTS 512MB can overclock (stably) to 750 Core, 1813 Shader and 2100 Memory without problems, all with my fan at 50% (same noise level as my case). The only sour point I have is that I spent $357.XX for my 8800GTS 512 when it first came out. It was a bad purchase, IMO, but was a much needed card at the time.

Is it possible to run this on an Antec Earthwatts 500, or is there not enough amperage on the 12V rail? I'm looking to use my stepup from eVGA.

That's a very nice setup. Back in November when I sold my 8800 GTX I heavily considered this setup. Had a 3870 in hand and knew it would work with the X2 on release. I miss my x38 board for sure...

Wouldn't it be great if this was just a huge elaborate April fools joke by Nvidia? Tomorrow they'll be like, haha we got you all, and then ship the real 9800GTX's to reviewers, that blow everything out of the water. That would be great, all these hardware review sites put all this work into reviewing a fake card.

Don't worry about it, it serves the purpose :)
That Dude constantly throws stones, hopefully one of the mods will pick up on it soon :disgust:

In all honesty i would like to see a new competitors come to the market. I know that that is a scary thought for any start up company and is probably highly unrealistic but why not add a new competitor to the graphics card battle. I think if you could pull it off cuz i am sure you could definitely get the grants and investors for sure if you had everything well settled. Just image what it would do to the market. Everyone would be curious about a new competitor and check them out especially if you could get good performance with good driver support.

No, I'll stick with my Nov'06 8800 GTX. The 9800 GTX is not a "true next gen" card, and can barely beat my current card, actually losing a share of benchmarks. 9800 GX2 is a dual GPU solution which I reject by definiton as bulky and unreliable, too driver-dependent. Maybe if it was a 8800 Ultra or 9800 GTX SLI'd on one card, I'd consider it. But two GTS's, no thanks. As for real SLI (inc. tri- or quad-solutions), I always reject it due to the reasons mentioned above. Even worse than a dual GPU monster card.

I'm waiting for a real next generation single GPU card that can clearly eclipse what is currently available. GT200 maybe... although the latest reports don't sound so convincing anymore.

Besides, quite honestly, I don't feel any real upgrade pressure. Crysis is pretty much the only game that brings my card to its knees in my native res (1680*1050) in "eye candy" mode. Unfortunately, it holds true for all video card configs money can buy at the moment.
