no

ditto.

Any future driver updates will likely bring the GF8 series more on par with the recent GF9 results, not widen the gap. It's the GF8 that has outdated drivers most likely on purpose, but doesnt matter they are indeed outdated in comparison.

If all the man has to do is pay shipping to get a better card then what the heck does that matter.

It's pointless, don't bother. The doomsayers have passed judgement. Nothing said matters at this point.

I for one think the 9800GTX is great, every game out there runs well on it, Crysis on medium/high runs well on it (and looks better than any game still at those settings) and it's only $300 bucks (don't get me started on the awesomeness of the 9600GT and the 8800GT), you can SLI them for the price of what a new-gen card would be ($600) and get amazing 2560x1600 performance and amazing Very High Crysis performance. They also overclock like mad (and who doesn't love playing around with hardware?) and they are easy on the temperatures and power draw as well so that's a plus as well not to mention all the added PureVideo features. It's not like anything coming out this year is going to be tough enough on the cards, Crysis is going to be the most advanced video game in quite a long time still.

I wanted to do a direct comparison to my 8800GT's (Superclocked) side by side. As you already know, the results weren't impressive. Basically, if you're not looking to do Triple SLI, I don't see the point in upgrading to this card if you have an 8800GT, equivalent or better. Now if this were a 384 Bit card with 768 MB or even 1 GB of RAM, this would be a different story. These specs are straight off the Evga site.

8800GT Superclocked:

650 Mhz Clock
256 Bit
512 MB GDDR3
(950 Mhz Clock - 1900 Mhz Effective)
1620 Mhz Shader Clock
112 Stream Processors
60.8 GB / Second Memory Bandwidth

9800GTX:

675 Mhz Clock
256 Bit
512 MB GDDR3
(1100 Mhz Clock - 2200 Mhz Effective)
1690 Mhz Shader Clock
128 Stream Processors
70.4 GB / Second Memory Bandwidth

Totally agree with that, if you have a 8800GT no need to upgrade to a 9800GTX :)

If you own an 8800 G92 card there?s absolutely no point in upgrading. The performance difference between the cards is not worth mentioning. All these make such a move irrational except if you have the bucks and want to go 3SLI. Of course you?ll need to have your own power line directly connected to the closest nuclear power plant. Good luck to those few that will atempt it.
