I've upgraded the chipset drivers already and to no avail =[[

What do you mean by ghosting? Like copying over?

EDIT: Do you guys know if me running 1920x1200 is causing this issue? I have a 27' Apple Cinema Display.

ghosting means used Norton Ghost which makes an identical copy of the old disk and moves it onto a new one. It seems as the old drives was slow or dying which was causing stutters with some soft of frequency. I was only seeing them in Need for speed most wanted though, which led me on a wlid goose chase.

How long have you had them?

Don't fret if you can't fix it. This might be a shot in the dark but my cards experienced the same thing. They were also EVGA 9800 GTXs and I did everything I could to fix it (formatting/switching drivers/etc.) I thought it might've been the temperature of the cards but I installed EVGA Precision and maxed out the fan speed to 100%. I left my case open. To make sure it wasn't anything else, I switched out the ram, mobo, PSU, and CPU. Same thing. I borrowed my friend's video card and everything was rock solid again.

It first began with minor stuttering which soon become major bursts of lag, then random artifacts began to appear, and finally the dreaded "nvlddmkm stopped responding and has recovered" message. Only way to fix em was to get new ones... so I RMAd them.

I'll check out the harddrive issue when I get another to test with. This has been happening since I installed the 9800GTX+. With the 8600, it was smooth at 60 fps btu when I got this card, it's been faulty only with this game. Need for speed and warcraft 3 work well
