9800 GT the problem?

Hi Guys

Just recently my monitor does not turn on every time I boot up. I have to try a few times and switch outputs on my card (DVI)

Have taken my ram out and V card and put them back in again, anyone have an idea if this is the monitor or what? :-(

Not great since I have coursework deadlines looming

Maybe you have your pci16 slot running faster than 100? Try using a different pci16 slot if possible. Could just be a bad monitor. Try another card as well.

Weird, I have the same problem. What kind of monitor do you have? I have a Gateway FPD2485W. I have some similar components to you - I use an 8800GT on an ASUS P5B Deluxe board. I don't really pay much mind to the problem, since my computer is sleeping most of the time and it's pretty rare I bring it up from a cold boot. The times I have to bring it up cold I usually have to press the reset button a couple times in order to get the monitor to detect the signal.

first make sure all connections are set, power cord is plugged in all the way, both on the monitor and in the wall, check to make sure video cable connections are nice and tight. if so then try booting into safe mode? this'll help determine if it's just drivers or the actual card itself. also can you view it going through post?

rule out cables by getting known good cables, then monitor by using known good monitor, then if you have a spare pci-express card, rule out card by using that.

Mostly likely a problem with the connection between monitor/cable, videocard/cable, or videocard/motherboard. Tighten it all up and I bet you'll be fine.

Cold boot problems are commonly power related: this points to either PSU or motherboard not completing the boot cycle unless warmed/powered up for some time beforehand.

I had similar problems before and it was my monitor.I went thru 3 differnet video cards trying to figure it out.

8800gt, to hd4850 to 9800gtx then I bought a new montior and it worked fine.Hopefully its not your montior but if you have another montior to check it with I would do that
