If you can score a 3.2L Daimler motor that's compatible with that ECU/etc, that's a pretty solid deal.

*only for a mechanic or someone with good connections on price, and can do most of the labor themselves.
 
I have worked for mercedes as a mechanic for about 6 years now and you definitely want to stay away from the first year of the ML. It had a lot of problems ranging from mass air flow sensor to catalytic converters.
