9700pro in HL1/HL1 mods

I currently have a GF3 Ti200 and the only games I play are HL1 mods. I'm thinking its time to upgrade and I'm looking at 9700pros. Now if I remember correctly it seemed like quite a few people had difficulties running ATI cards in half life mods, it seemed hit or miss, either it ran great, or you had trouble. Is this still the case, or is that fixed with driver releases or something? If I mainly play hl1 and its mods I need to know if i'm going to get good performance in them heh anyways, let me know if im wrong or right or whats up, btw, eventully i plan to buy hl2, hence wanting a better card. my ti200 runs hl1 and its mods great 😛

I have another question, what could I expect to buy one of these for in the FS forum here.

When I had an ATI card 9500 Pro to be exact It would be locked down at whatever the refresh rate was. This was mostly CS with 4X AA and 16X AF then whatever resolution I felt like playing that day. ussually 1280x1024 but occasionally 1600x1200.

The only driver problems I remember were the early 3.X's drivers, above like 3.6 was fine IIRC.

My advice is if you play only HL1 for now then put off upgrading your Ti200 until you get HL2, unless you got an sweet deal on that 9700 Pro.


I have a 9800 Pro myself and I had no trouble running HL and all its mods with Cat 4.9.
