uhh yeah but you don't need the display properties if the card properly detected your DCC... duhh...
The control panel should always be installed.
you just reworded what i said.. looks like you don't understand english
No, you said you have to set what modes the monitor is capable of. Any monitor is capable of tons of different modes. You only have to set the max res and refreh rate, not the monitors modes. The monitor inf file sets the modes (you still need to install this).
yeah you don't, cuz you are a computer nerd... 90% of the people that own ati cards aren't computer nerds, and usually don't bother with the settings, or even bother to install the ati control panel...
That is why they come here to ask for useful advice. I gave the poster a fix. You came here to thread crap and have offered nothing to help.

says who? you? the control panel doesn't come installed with the drivers..

any monitor is capable of any mode above the minimum and below the max.. so i meant max by saying capable

nahh you gave the poster a fix.. and you gave your own ati vs nvidia arguments...
i was just responding to yours..

He said "should" as in anybody with half a frikin brain that wants to control more than the basic features of their video card and reads the dasm information clearly before aimlessly throwing their card into the slot and hoping for the best then crying for help like some troll ready to blast anyone that may actually have some sense and try to help despite dealing with an obvious ingrate like yourself who seems incapable of even basic social skills. Keep talking pal...

And just what arguments were those? Feel free to quote me. I never said anything pro or con about nV or ATi.

Just to let you know... with the bnc used you can't use dcc and you can't set the monitor
max res or refresh rates.
They are greyed out because ATI says ok you installed our drivers and your monitor
settings but since I can't read anything from your monitor YOU don't know enough
to set the correct monitor inf file so I better be safe and protect YOU since you are an
idiot.

More to the point ATI won't say a damn word about this. Seems that they want the ms
cert on the drivers and this is one of the points they are making for MS.

We will not allow the user to fry their monitor so we won't allow them to do anything
since they are all idiots.

I set everything with a std monitor cable and it works fine. Now I am going to go back and try the bnc cables and see if it will keep the current settings.
(I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS ATI)

and like I said before go to rage3D 100's of post on this same thing with ATI drivers
and their 60hz block. They sure want that new XbOX deal so whatever Microshaft says they will do.

Are you even paying attention? I do use BNC cables, with ATI cards in my rigs, as do other posters in this thread who are trying to help you. BNC cables do not support DDC, they don't send info back from the monitor. This is true no matter what video card you use. That is why with an ATI card, you need to go into the advanced display properties>into the display's monitor property sheet> and UNCHECK "use DDC information" if it is checked (It says "unsupported" on mine) and under maximum resolution, set it at the HIGHEST supported resolution for your monitor. Mine is set to 2048x1536. Then you need to set the HIGHEST refresh rate supported by your monitor. Mine is set to 200HZ. I use 1600x1200@85HZ for my desktop CRT setting.
Note that there is also a setting for forcing the DX refresh rate to whatever your monitor supports.

Search is a skill....not a right.

Now you're making sense....

I agree, follow the steps outlined in the link should work the first time.

Exactly, stuff like searching and paying attention to helpful tips escape a great many PC users....even at Rage3d.
They sure want that new XbOX deal so whatever Microshaft says they will do.

So it's a case of user err then huh? There's a shocker.

Besides the BNC DDC issue (hey, if you have gone out of your way to get and use BNC gear then RTFM!)... ATI's DirectX and OpenGL refresh rate override (to MS' defaults) has been included since February under the Displays tab -> Monitor. Previous to then (for about a year or so) the same interface duplicated the DirectX RRO as found in its Diagnostics and Properties (which has been provided by MS for years). Control Panel is seperate from drivers because at some point it will not change as often so it makes sense to download it seperately. Also, if the TVO is enabled, the RR will be limited to 60Hz.
