I recently built a new computer from scratch, and I've been having some issues with it. First, the build:
DVD: LITEON|SHD-16S1S-05 SATA Black
Video: EVGA 7950GT KO 512-P2-N635-AR
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
CPU: INTEL E6600 2.4GHz
Case: ANTEC|TX1050B Black with 500W dual rail PSU
OS: WINDOWS XP HOME w/SP2B
Harddrive: Samsung HD501LJ 500GB 3GB/s SATA2
Memory: 2GB CORSAIR TWIN2X2048-6400
Ok, now the trouble. Whenever I turn my computer on after it's been setting a while powered off, I have a 50/50 chance that it will have several vertical lines running up and down the screen. The lines are not solid, but made up of several dashes lined up in a row above each other. When this happens, if I let the computer continue to boot, it will make to the windows loading screen and either crash to a black screen, or very rarely to a BSOD with error. If, however, I press reset when the lines appear, the computer will almost always reset to a clean screen. Once it boots up with a clean screen, either from resetting it or if it happens to load with one, it will run rock solid until I turn it off.
Now, I've been searching the internet trying to find a solution, and so far I have found one of the RAM sticks to be bad (RMA under way) but the issue persists. I have found only two possible references to this issue, one from someone who had what they described as "matrix lines" appear on the screen on boot up randomly, also had the 7950GT but from a different manufacturer. The other was that the computer would get stuck in a loop restarting until reset was hit.
I'm just looking for a solution to keep the lines from appearing at all, if possible. Thanks for any help.
