9600xt

Just got my new video card and tomshardware forums has crapped out on me, so hopefully this forums will be a little more helpful. I'm wanting to overclock it, it has the RV360 core and Hynix 2.8ns memory. Whenever I try to overclock, I go in steps of 5mhz starting from stock. Stock for my 9600xt is 500mhz core and 600mhz memory. I think its the core thats holding me back. I'm using ATI tool, and when I overclock 10mhz, it will go ok for about 5 sec and then it my computer will freeze totally and I will have to hard shut down. I've tried upping my AGP voltage, nothing I've tried has worked. Any advice?

I also had this problem except it happend a little higher than 10mhz. You could try turning off VPU recover although it isn't recommended by ATI. The 9600 series has known issues with some games such as CoD for needing a reboot.

Yeah, I turned it off, the program just goes a little longer before freezing. The other day I was able to get the memory oc'd by 30mhz. What is a good setting for AGP voltage? I have 1.5, 1.6.1.7, and 1.8 in my BIOS. I would set it at 1.8 but i'm afraid what could happen.

i was able to go up to 547 but only up 20mhz on my ram. I think that it doesn't have very good quality ram on it or something. Before tinkinering with the voltage i would want to check the heat on the card. Feel the heatsink and ram chips and see if they are warm before you o/c and see if they are more hot.

They were always just warm. I opened counter strike in a window and had the thermometer thing open for my 9600xt, it got up to 46c. I'm sure it got higher during benchmarks and doom3 and farcry. I'm pretty sure its not a temp problem.
