9600xt? 9800np?

sorry.....edit*

which is going to be the better buy.....

9600xt or a 9800np to flash to a 9800p?

dont know if it's worth the risk

fastest = XT if you can afford 500 ..
NP is hit or miss but well worth the 200 buck tag

oops .. you said 9600XT or 9800NP .. thought you meant 9800 XT

the 9600xt isn't out yet, so you can't really compare them. wait if you can, but if you can't, the 9800np is a solid choice.

I'm gonna try to make a very objective post, hopefully this will not turn into a flame fest...

Your best bargain is to buy something used from the For Sale/Trade forum right here. Radeon 9700 or better, basically something with 256 bit memory and 8 pipes. I would look to spend around $200.

Should you want to only consider 'new' cards, and I am in no way insulting your judgement on that, I would recommend getting the cheapest 9600 Pro (Or XT) you can. Ideally around $150. Reason being the 9600 Pro/XT is fast enough to run every game on the market at a decent resolution and framerate. By the time D3 and HL2 come out, you'll be able to buy better cards than the 9800 Pro for half the money.

9800np is a sick deal no matter what memory you get. I thought I got shafted by the 3.0 infineon mem but its OCed to 425/351 on standard cooling + a side panel fan.

Isn't the 9600 only 4 pipes too?
