a 2400+ and a 9600 Pro will run UT2k4 at 1024X768 at max settings real smooth, and will do farcry at 1024X768 max settings at around 30 frames. Doom3 will do quite well at 1024X768 medium, and hl2 will run at 70+fps at 1024X768 at max settings.

I think you are being very nice here...I have a 9600XT and I wouldn't imagine running FarCry at max settings on 10x7. It's too much for the card. I would say that 30fps would be a high point, with 15-20 being normal.

UT2K4 runs well on older systems. Your system will run it just fine in medium settings. I've run it before on an AXP 1800+/512MB/GF4MX440 and it's perfectly smooth and playable. Unless you have a Voodoo3 and a Celeron 450MHz, you're good to go.
