hi people!

i'm about to buy a new rig, and i have 1000 doubts about what to buy...

First, if i choose to do a 9600gt sli, i'll have to buy some mobo with at least nvidia 680 chipset, right? But those mobos are quite expensive..

On the other hand, if i choose a 3870 crossfire configuration, i can use some p35 or x38 based mobo, which (i have read) are better chipsets. P35 mobos are really cheap, x38 not so much, they reach 680 mobo's price. Is P35 a good chip for a gaming pc? Or is it "old" nowadays?
Does amd chipsets work better with ati cards? Does it worth to buy a Phenom cpu? (i will buy an e8400 for sure, but i dunno...)

Also, i have to keep in mind that 3870 cards are a bit more expensive than the 9600gt, but the difference is not so important.

In almost all reviews, both cards perform very similar, but i think sli does better than crossfire... don't you? Games does run a bit faster when using sli...

well.. well.. well... as you see, i'm a little lost about my new buy, so i will thank you any advices you give to me.

ps: don't mind about prices in your country, i'm buying my hard in argentina

Why why why?
Medium/High End Single Slot > Low End SLi/CF.

You can get a sub-$100 P35 motherboard and an 8800GTS at about $200AR.
2x 9600GTs will run you $300 already, and you still have to invest another $150+ for a motherboard.
The performance difference isn't going to be much, at least not a $150 worth, unless you run on 1920x1200+

well yes... after writing this post, i was thinking and my crazy idea for sli/cf is dissapearing slowly... Besides, I'm not a hardcore gamer, nowadays I'm a casual one :p

I think I'll buy an 8800GTS(g92)... with a bit OC, it runs as the new 9800GTX (totally crap vga, i must say, don't you?).
