The guy has 512MB of RAM. It's gonna take dives every time he enters a room or turn around. Even with a 10000RPM HDD Virtual Ram will be ass slow. His RAM is his limitation, methinks.

Its not the RAM that is affecting his 3D performance, read carefully. A 8750 score on 3dmark2001 means something else is fubared.

I forgot about that. The only thing that stuck in my head was FarCry performance. Maybe IQ is set to medium (with AA/AF on) in the desktop propertie?

I have a 9600XT and run FarCry @ 1024x768 with all settings on high (AA/AF on medium) and get between 50-60 FPS. Are you using Cat4.5 drivers?

you cant call a 100% perfectly functional video card that can run any game out at max settings perfectly trash.

Sure it is not as fast as the 8 and 16 pipe cards nowadays, but those are not even needed, they are a luxury.

thats like saying having anything in your driveway besides an Enzo Ferrari is trash.

Update:

Ok. I ran the driver removal tool, rebooted, reinstalled the 4.5 drivers, and left everything at default. (no Rage3D tweaker)

My 3DMark01 score jumped to 10500 (up from ~8700). That seems a little low, but closer to norm. I found my copy of 3DMark03 and ran it. I got a 2400. That doesn't seem right at all. Also, it tells me I can't run 2 of the tests. :-( Is there any utility that can tell me what could be wrong here? Maybe a hardware problem like a non-functioning pipeline or bad video ram?

My Farcry FPS is still in the mid 20s. (800x600, medium)
My UT2K3 FPS is in the upper 20s. (1024x768, medium)
My Q3A FPS is ~140 now (1152x864, max detail)

All these just seem rather low for my system. I'll try to remove the drivers again, then manually clean the registry, then try the Omega drivers.

Perhaps there is something wrong with the card. Is it overheating? Do you have any other card to compare with in which you know what an expected 3dmark score would be? If you could borrow a 9800 pro from a friend and get 5500ish on 3dmark03, you'd know your 9600XT is fubar.
