ATI drivers are very good these days. It must be a conflict, but is not ATI's fault I think. It's a sh!t you can taste how good ATI is nowadays. Good luck.

The thing is when the only component you change is the video card any conflicts / issues even compatability ones are IMOH the fault of the thing you change.

You realize by installing a new card you uninstalled the previous one, and thus "changed" the old card's drivers? Seems like the culpit is probably drivers. Why aren't you installing the ATi driver bundle, so you don't have to install the CP separately? The bundle is at the top of the driver page, IIRC--one big download, rather than two or three separate ones.

The fact that the Zalman isn't hot is either nice and worrying. Nice, if the RV350 isn't putting out much heat; worrying, if the Zalman HS isn't making good contact with the R350, and thus not drawing heat away from the GPU.

Edit: Also, you can use Pentium M's in desktops? Where can I find more info on this?

Well I booted into safemode uninstalled all drivers and used regcleaner followed by search the registry/windows folder manually. I could download the ati bundle as I get CRC errors quite often - not sure why but its very irratating.

The zalman is making excellent contact but is just producing very little heat, but I have a 80mm fan above which blows directly down which facilatates the cooling.

As for the cpu its a p41.4 m running at 12 x 200, I had a P-M but couldnt persuade powerleap to sell me the adaptor :frown:

Still an incredible OC. I'd love to have "mobile" CPUs on the desktop--the less power -> the less heat -> the less cooling noise, the better.

Thats my next try, I am currently re-formating windows, I will then install motherboard drivers, directx9, ATI 3.6 and then the control panel. If this doesnt work I am going to get rid of the card, I havent spent a whole day installing a machine in a long while and dont intend to again. Its a shame as I was prepared to try an ati card for the first time in ages hoping the drivers had got better - looks like its back to the ti4600 and wait for the fx5700

edit as a side note everything in the machine has worked flawlessly for a couple of months with a gef3ti500 but a fan came undone and I think I cooked the core doh! so ti4600 it is.

It's a shame if you aren't able to get it to work, the 9600 pro is a nice card. I honestly believe it's a conflict with some motherboard drivers that you're installing but that said, if you can't get it to work and the Ti4600 works fine, then that's your best recourse. Do you have access to Windows XP at all? I'd recommend trying out that OS before completely giving up on the card.

Edit: just noticed in your other post you got it working, good job.

Seems to be working OK now, core runs to 500mhz no problems and the memory 325 with no issues.

So its all working fine 12k in 2001se and 3700 in 3dmark03 so I know I will carry on playing Metal gear solid 2 (I had only just got onto the plant section) and it look awful the textures are terrible the shadows badly drawn. Just my luck, I picked the least supported ATI game out :(

I saw the list for your image quality for the TV out and I want to contribute...

What I've noticed is that my Geforce4mx420 (MSI DDR version. Has VGA, Composite and Svideo) has REALLY good tvout image quality (well I can't tell the difference ;) ) but it cost 100 when it was released...it isn' the 30 dollar G4mx'ss out so i'm guessing that perhaps they are using inferior TV out equipment on the newer ones...

So I guess not all G4mx's are made equal ;)
