9600 GSO 384MB GDDR3 $55 ($35 After Rebate)

$7 shipping. Wonder if free shipping will come along later. Nice deal, especially if you want that COD game.

Oddly, the board has a speaker/buzzer mounted near the power plug. Must be some sort of alarm.

Hmm. The cooler on these cards absolutely sucks, one of mine burned out when running at 96C, in an Antec 300 case loaded with fans, all on high.
No fan control through Rivatuner either.

Note, the rebate on the first page states limit 2, and then later on in the fine print on the second page, states limit 1. So good luck buying two and trying to get the rebate.

Edit: In for one.

its not a bad deal after rebate, but the PNY 9600GSO OC 768mb for $40.00 after rebate was a much better deal, this ends up being $42.00 after rebate and has half the ram, which is no big deal, but it is not overclocked like the PNY was either.

Right now you would be hard pressd to find a better deal, but there have been better deals before, i got 3 of the PNY 9600GSO, for $40.00 each, already got my checks and deposited them all.

course the free game is nice too. but i already own it.

Great deal compared to last year's EVGA 384MB ($36 after $50 rebate) or the more recent PNY 768MB ($40 after $40 rebate). The rebate for this is only $20, plus is comes with a free game.

Be aware that if you buy this from Newegg, you DO NOT GET A MFG WARRANTY on the card.

Newegg only offers 30-day returns on this card, whereas the mfg warranty is supposed to be three years on Asus video cards. The catch is, you have to RMA the card through the vendor (Newegg). Asus doesn't do direct RMA with customers.

So Newegg is effectively screwing you out of warranty. No wonder the price is so cheap.

sounds like you go through Asus for RMA

If anyone gets the game and wants to trade for an oem copy of Stalker Clear Sky that I am getting with another card LMK

was it ever FS? It is 7 bones a pop now for shipping. If you get two its like getting free shipping, however since there is a reduction in price and shipping for 2 or more.

edit: for those wondering: taken from rebate form:

2. Only two rebates per qualifying product per
household per promotion will be accepted.

$35 is a great deal for those that don't care much about gaming or those that can settle for older games and lower res. COD alone must still be worth around $15-20 or so new.

Warning, this may not be 96 stream processor chip. One of the customer reviews claims he got 48 stream processor chip. Asus seems to have a "TOP" version of this 9600gso series which is 96 stream processors.

The good 96 shader versions are 384Mb or 768Mb. Gimped 48 shader model is typically 512Mb, maybe 1Gb. Newegg reviews are often entertaining. I'd send it back if they did pull a switch.

What are the power supply requirements for this card?

I need a new card 7600GT quit working.

7600gt uses about 40w
9800gt uses about 85w

A 9600gso is a cut down 9800gt (some units are disabled)

So you can assume it's less than 85w

I think that it requires 26 amps on the +12v rail.

I managed to get 3 of the PNY 768MB model, the last 2 for $40 apiece. Great cards for the price, but I don't know if I'd want a 384MB model.

It would be interesting to see if it needs any more than 384. Probably not. I ordered one to sli with my evga 9600gso... plus I wanted the game. Between the 2 cards, I have 70.00 invested. Should be pretty fast for the $.

At most it requires 85w/12v=7a on the 12v. At most it can draw 150w (75w from the pci-e, 75w from the 6-pin) for 12.5a of power usage. I don't know why the manufactures overrate the requirements for PSUs, I suspect many generic crappy PSUs manufactures overrate their performance and they're just covering their asses. Either way this should run on a name brand 300w PSU or a generric 400w+ PSU. You could probably get away with a decent 250w but a crappy PSU has a chance to fail for any reason.

xbitlabs system power very good article.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't VRAM totally overrated? The only reason it matters here is because the 512MB/1024MB GSOs are the neutered versions.

Still hoping Dell ships the Galaxy 9800 GT soon, or else these GSO deals are looking better and better.

I don't think that it's overrated if you're using two of them in SLI. Not with today's games. Think of it as a little added insurance. 😉

@Schmide: you're totally right. I should be looking at the actual max wattage of the card, because W/V would tell me the correct amperage.
