I was expecting something Japanese, space is really at a premium there. I read about a hotel in Japan that's basically just a wall with 3x3x7 foot cubes set into it. Each is a "room", which is really just a bed with a TV on a shelf in the corner.
Regardless, @ the caption... "Small houses challenge our notions of need as well as minimum-size standards". That's a definite quality of life issue, and the real reason we're draining our planet's resources isn't our standard of living as Americans, it's people in third-world nations having 10, 15, 25 kids.

The world hates us primarily because they don't have what we have.Originally posted by: BD2003

Right, because its better for Americans to use 5 times as much as the average person needs, as opposed to 20 people actually getting half of what the average person needs.
Not that they should keep churning out babies faster than nintendo can make Wiis, but when you wonder why the world hates us...

Need isn't defined by what's required to keep us alive. A cave would fulfill that requirement, but I think you'll agree living in one would suck. Like I said, it's a quality of life issue.
People hate us because of jealosy. George W Bush doesn't help any, either. Our draw on resources would be fine if the world's population weren't so unnecessarily high, provided of course that we look into alternative energy sources as we are doing.

I also have to question the numbers people come up with. Last I heard we'd need 3 planets to support 7 billion people living the way 300 million Americans do, but you seem to be saying 5 planets.
