96 Geo Prizm cold air intake

I got a old Geo Prizm that I use as a backup car and the air filter box is busted up, only one clip is attached the rest have broken off(doesn't seal good). I was wondering instead of trying to find another if a cold air intake will work ok and if the cheap ones on ebay will do?

Just buy another air box from the dealer or find one out of a junk yard. A cold air intake isn't worth the money on that car and it will probably just make more noise and possibly cause other problems.

Still, anything is better than what you have now. If you don't have a good seal between your air filter and the intake tract you are just breathing dirt into your engine which will kill it faster than anything.

k I'll look around. I just thought a cold air intake would be easier to find and probably cheaper.

just fashion a mounting rig with duct tape and zip ties and mount your air filter that way.

not a bad idea, I think wal-mart carries black duct tape now that way it will blend in(mostly anyway).

Just be sure not to get a hot air intake (which is what all of the ones that open into the engine compartment are).

Why do you care if it blends in? It's under the hood on a car that you probably won't be showing off.

lol the car ain't much to look at but when I go get the oil changed I don't want it to stick out. I know duct tape fixes everything but no need to show everyone. If I could do oil changes and such myself(I live in apartments so it ain't possible) I wouldn't care.

I wouldn't care too much about what the guy at Jiffy lube thinks. I'm sure he could care less.
