The memory on the 9500 pro is 128 bit. But, you can still flash it to a 9700 pro bios. It won't perform as good as a 9700 pro though.

thats what I thought

Thats a pretty damn misleading auction then.

No, you can not flash a 9500 PRO into a 9700 pro. You can flash a 9500 NON pro to a 9700 (non pro), which you can then over clock to a 9700 Pro. But this is all depending on how lucky you are for it was about a 40 to 55% chance, back in the days, now I imagine the chance are even less likely. He maybe OVERCLOCKING it to 9700 pro speeds, and he may have flashed the 9500pro's BIOS with a 9700pro BIOS, which should be causing conflicts (I would imagine) as a 9700 pro is going to be trying to use 256bit memory interface that just wont be there.

In deed, this auction, could be missleading. Someone may missinterpret what he is stating about the overclocking abilities, for softmodding into a 9700, since he does speak of flashing the BIOS into a 9700 pro.

9500np 4 pipelines can be softmod to 8pipelines on some "L" models
9500pro has 8 pipelines same as the 9700
The only difference is that 9500pro has 128bit memory and the 9700
Has 256bit (plus naturally memory/core speed differences )

The auction IMHO is not dishonest it clearly states "9700 pro speeds"
And that can be realistically achieved on a 9500pro

Core/memory speed does not equal performance

Look at the card. I think he just oc the card to 9700pro speeds. The card has a linear line of memory which means softmodding is really not possible.

I didn't have to think about it any further, once I saw about the picture of the card; I knew it was not real. One needs an L shaped memory configuration to Modify it to 9700 speeds. The card he is auctioning is not L shaped, the memory is above the GPU.

In the upper part of your post you said NOTHING that hasn't already been said, with a reliable reference.

nimo = auctioner? Or are you as deceitful as he is and therefore feel compelled to defend the deceptive tactics employed?

The title of the auction reads:
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro -> 9700 Pro Retail MINT
Most people familar with this mod have come to know this symbol, not as overclocking to the speeds of a 9700 pro but, to mean soft (or hard) modding of a 9x00 to a greater 9x00.

When you say that the action clearly states "9700 pro speeds" you're taking it out of context. He is not saying that taking it to 9700 pro speeds is all you can do, he is implying you can end up with a 9700 pro, because not only is it overclocked, but he has flashed the bios to a 9700pro (or so he states).

You are bidding on a few month old ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128mb. I have upgraded the bios of this card to the 9700 Pro bios. This card can run on the 9700 Pro speeds with NO PROBLEMS. You can go higher speeds if you put some ramsinks on it and change out the stock fan. This card comes with everything that came in the RETAIL BOX and also includes the BOX. Reason why I am selling is that 0I upgraded to a ATI 9800 Pro so I am in no need of this card. These are getting to be RARE cards.

I HATEpeople like this who are always looking to take advantage of others. I HATE people who try to look for a simple fault in wording, or stick to 3 words in a complete statement to justify their wrongful behavior (by taking those 3 words out of content). I truly HATE ambiguity, in hopes of taking avantage of someone else. This seller knows exactly what the buyer wants and in a sense the seller is promising it; but in the end he will not deliver. The buyer will not have any rights to truly complain for in the end the auction is ambiguous enough to allot the seller a loop hole through which he can escape all fault.

I flashed the BIOS of my 9500 Pro with a custom BIOS and overclocked it. I seem to get the same overall performance
described by others who have 9700 Pro cards that are not overclocked. Great performance for the money. It sounds like the ad was directed toward those who understand that this is possible.

Yes, you can flash it. What you can't do is softmod it. I do agree the auction is very misleading, but he never mentions that it's been softmoded. He only says it is running at 9700 pro speeds, which can be interpreted as meaning different things. I take it to mean the clock speeds are the same as on a 9700 pro, but without any research it could be easy to mistake what he is saying.
