Man, NVIDIA is milking the G92 variants so much. Now we got ourselves a 9600GS which is exactly the same as a 8800GS.

None of those charts you linked to has a 9600GT on them

I'd personally still take the HD 4670 over the 9600GT due to low power requirements and cool operation.

But those are still great price drops on the Nvidia cards. :)

I just picked up an evga 9600gt for less then $60 after rebate and am considering returning it because of the lower power consumption. The reviews on other websites that I have seen show the 4670 to be somewhat slower than a 9600gt but I don't game that much and my computer is on all the time. I still have over 3 weeks to return it so if I see a Visiontek 4670 in the $60 range (most likely w rebate) I'm in

the 9600GT for $99 isnt even a really good deal when 8800GTs are still selling for $109.

its just that the8800GT doesnt have a 9 in it.

$99 is a suggested list price. Of course you will be able to find it for cheaper

Dammit...

Should I return the 9600GT that I bought from Fry's last week when they had that sale for $59 after rebate?

Why? The 9600GT is a good deal faster than the 4670.

yep...i dont know why people want a 4670, except for possibly power consumption.

Power consumption, noise, price (unless you got that $60 AR deal) and I believe video decoding for HTPC. To that end can the 9600GT output to hdmi with an adapter? Or do you have to get a model with HDMI out physically on it?

I'm still debating between the 4670 and the 9600gt for my HTPC but am leaning towards the 4670 for the lower before rebate price.

From the "final words" of the anandtech review of the 4670:

" If you want gaming performance first, however, you will still need a more powerful GPU - we'd recommend spending a little bit more like the HD 3870, 9600 GT, or 8800 GT"

The review also has charts showing the 9600GSO beating the 4670 and the 9600GT is more powerful than the GSO. I think you where thinking of the 9500GT which the 4670 trounces. Either way the performance is close but there is the heat/noise and HD playback considerations which is why I'm still on the fence, not even considering the price difference.

HDMI video is just DVI single-link. If you want audio, then the Nvidia 9xxx series (except for some 9800 GT) can do audio passthrough using a jumper cable from your motherboard's onboard audio's SPDIF headers.

Sure doesn't, but it has the HD3870 which loses to the 9600GT in most scenarios and the HD4670 is slower than the HD3870 so there is no way the HD4670 is faster than the 9600GT :)

yea, first I just wanted to point out that his evidence didn't even include the card he was talking about. I think he confused the 9600GT with the 9500GT which is on the charts.

For anyone who is curious about how much faster the 9600GT is than the 4670 (or many other cards) here is a link to the 4670 thread which links many reviews:
