I just upgraded from a 9500 pro to a 9800 pro and thought I would see a big difference in speed and game quality but you know what? I dont see much difference at all. Ran 3dmark2001 SE and only got an extra 1000 point (not much IMO). I have a 3.06 ghz p4 and 1.5 gig of ram. Should I see a significant diffrence or is my system just about as fast as it can get? Or is the 9500 pro just that good?

9500P is pretty good. It's a few steps down from the 9800P, but it's a very respectable card. The steps are: 9500P-->9700-->9700P-->9800P. The difference is what I'd say is a few step differences, but not a massive "leap" difference.

yeah.....well won't the big DX9 intensive games that are goin to come out make a huge difference between those two cards? I thought one was built around DX8 and the other DX9.............I dunno, I haven't been hardware news very closely for the past two years or so.....

......that reminds me....whatever happened to OpenGL?

It's still there. Homeword 2 uses it and it's stunning. Some people prefer it for UT2003 and UT2004 will support it.

The 9500pro is actually fully DX9 compliant and has 8 pipelines, just like the 9800pro (the newer 9600/pro/XT only has 4 pipelines) so it is essentially an older and lower clocked version of the 9800pro (with a 128-bit memory bus instead of the 256-bit of the 9700/9800).

I've play ed the HL2 beta with my 9500 Pro and it run it fine I assume when I buy the retail version if it ever comes out it will run even better so I don' t see a reason to upgrade to something beter until there is a significatly fast card or a really cheap card.

9500pro is one of the "good ones."

Put it on FS/T and someone will give it a good home very quickly.

Very True..

9500 Pro is a hell of a card and i will not upgrade for at least another cycle of cards..It just isn't needed yet.

9700 Series is another one of those..

The only differences you're going to see are with AA and AF maxed out on resolutions higher than 10x7.

I mostly am playing these days NFS Underground, call of duty, max payne2, GTA VC, KOTOR. I have not really seen much speed improvement from the 9500p to the 9800p. Except in NFS Underground where I kicked the card up to it's highest FSAA and AA where the 9500p slowed a bit but the 9800p was fluid. I got the card new for 220 and thought it was a good deal so I picked it up. Its tests slightly faster than the 9500p so I guess i'll keep it and put the 9500p up for sale. Thanks guys.

Yup. I wish there was more data on Doom III. I'd like an idea of what to buy for it. Carmak, being a coding god doesn't HAVE to talk, I guess. :D

It played it full detail on my 9700P, great engine, and there's the 9900P coming. (drool)

All of those games run very smoothly on my ti4200... Get a game that stresses it more.

Halo requires K-Y and a cigerette.

General rule: I only upgrade when I can double my performance.

Well, I ran 3dmark2003 with all options turned on and got 5500. I am assuming that is decent? It's much higher than what my 9500p put out.

Sorry, a little off topic,

Would it be a good upgrade from a GF4TI4200 64MB to a 9700 Pro???

from a Ti4200 to a 9700 pro is like the differance detween whole milk and 2% milk but it is not as great a differance as the upgrade from a 9500 to a 9700 pro that is a hugh differance
