im thinking of either getting a 95/96 integra with 160k miles at most or a 97/98 (probably 98) civic with the same mileage limit.. What do you guys think? integras have a reputation of lasting 200k miles with just simple oil change, and civics should do much more. integras are much more prestigious than civics, so i wont just be another ricer from the block, but integras are the most stolen cars proportionally, so that means higher insurance. What do a majority of you guys think?

i looked on craiglist and was able to see the 2 models at the same price range... 3-4 grands is what im shooting for.

Before the *zomg j00 must buy a domestic or j00 r a terrorist* crowd get here, I'd suggest getting the lowest mileage & best service record car you can find, of either flavour you desire, in your desired price range.

Will your mates really disown you if you get a civic?

i like the look of the integra more, plus it's faster. the only reason i'd get the civic is if it has less mileage.

The Civic will get better gas mileage but its made very cheaply. I have a 96 EX and while reliable, its very obvious that its an economy car. Why are you shopping only these two?

Assuming that he's not planning to race the things, I would imagine either vehicle would be quite comfortably fast enough to be safe for daily driving.

Civic hatchback, all the way. I have owned three Integras, and they are definitely great cars, but as far as economy, you should try to find a Civic Vx or if you don't like a hatchback, there is always the Hx. They are on the borderline of ridiculously slow, but being lighter does help.

I really enjoyed driving my '96 Integra GSR. Plus the two-door hatchback version made it easy for me to throw my mountain bike or snowboard in the back. I haven't driven a Civic of the vintage you describe, but I doubt it would be as fun. However, I'd expect the Civic to be less expensive to drive - cheaper tires, cheaper gas, etc.

i own a 96 integra, still have yet to hit 100K miles on it. Great, reliable car, not the greatest mileage though.

nearly all of the integras i saw on craigslist for under 4 grand and in good shape were automatics though, so i dont know i might have to go with a civic :( . Nearly all the good civics i see on clist are manual. Does anyone anyone know if you can swap any integra engine (up to 2002) with say a 97/98 civic?

the integra is a fun car to drive. you don't want an inferior civic chassis regardless of the engine in it.
