939 3000+

AFAIK, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, only the FX has unlocked multipliers.

only the FX has unlocked multipliers to pevent retialers from rebadging low end capable chips to 3800's and ripping off AMD and consumers

Why do you care anyway? unlocked multis not really needed these days with high speed chipsets, agp/pci locks and good memory.

Desirable sure... but not needed at all

Not all 939 boards have the AGP/PCI locks, either, and that makes a fair amount of difference.

So I keep hearing about these AGP/PCI locks. If I was to buy a 3000+ 939, which board should I get where I won't have to deal with that stuff?

There aren't many incredible S939 boards out there. The choice appears to be mainly between the MSI Neo2 Platinum or the ASUS A8V Deluxe rev 2.0

Not all of the asus come with working locks from what I hear. The MSI nvidia board would be your best bet.

the k8t800 and nforce 2 don't have pci/agp locks.

all of the k8t800 pro and nforce 3 chipsets are supposed to, but many of the early boards, namely asus, had problems with them. now i think all of the boards on these next gen chipsets have em

all nforce3 ultra boards will have them and work properly, the k8t800 pro is really hit or miss. So if you want to be protected with a fully working agp/pci lock go with a nforce 3 ultra board or nforce4 when it comes out.

I just started using an Epox EP-9NDA3+, which has the nForce 3 Ultra chipset, same as the Neo2 Platinum. SO far, so good.
