what is the PETA gonna do about it?

bomb a shelter.
I suspect they're going to make up some posters with Arnold as The Terminator, standing atop a pile of feline and canine corpses while he guns down a basket of kittens and puppies.

Yeah, PETA is to animal rights activists what Al Qaeda is to Islam.

That would be a cool ass poster! 😀

What's 3 days opposed to 6? Seriously?

I can understand why this may upset people. Someone may lose their pet nad not make it to the shelter to look for it for 4-5 days. There are a LOT of shelters in LA to search.

The flip side to this is the money the state spends to house these animals.

Great if it's cats they are killing. Save the dogs.

What an insightful comment. As if the cats don't have as much right to live as the dogs do. Perhaps we should euthanize you instead, to reduce the instances of dumbass remarks on ATOT.

I dont like cats. I like dogs. It's just my opinion. To me cats are obmoxious creatures. I may be an obnoxius creature to you, but I really dont care. If you dont like it, here's your spoon...

I don't like dogs much but I don't feel the need to make stupid comments, either.

Oh gee, I see now it was a joke. Golly gee whiz, what a side-splitter!

An estimated 600,000 dogs and cats are put to death each year in California, including 34,000 in Los Angeles alone.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/West/06/25/Schwarzenegger.strays.ap/index.html

Do they mean strays only or are they including animals that get dropped off at the Humane Society because somebody didn't want them?

::sigh::

This is why we spay and neuter, folks. Not to mention, don't get a fscking pet if you don't plan on keeping it or ensuring that it doesn't wander loose.

Spaying/Neuter is the kindest thing to do to an animal! It lessens their desire to fight, to wander, and it helps control the population.

🙂

I dont care if you want to kill every dog in the world. If that is your wish, then so be it. I may dont like cats but I dont harm them. It was a fvcking joke. Call it stupid if you wish. Once again, I dont really care.

I can understand that, but 6 days isn't an indefinite amount of time either. You lose your pet in a city like LA and the chances of finding it, if it indeed got picked up and dropped off at a pound, is pretty slim anyway, unless the pet has an ID tag of some sort.

I hope to crap this bill has some sort of exclusion for pets with ID tags and/or tracking chips. (Or some other obvious form of identification) If they refuse to store pets that are clearly owned by someone else I'd just about have to go on a murderous rampage... okay, just get all surly and make up more likely PETA protest posters.

How about they have to contact the folks whose pets have contact info on them?

Schwarzenegger is a cruel man, ship them to china, india, japan etc, they will make great pets 🙂
This is what we call animal cruelty, why don't they provide them a place to stay for awhile like homeless bums. btw, how did they become stray in the first place?

Yeah, that would be good, but I still don't think pets that are obviously owned with no contact info should be killed in 3 days. Not that they should keep them forever, but it should sure as hell be longer than 3 days.

Because it costs a great deal of money to house millions of pets for an extended amount of time.

Animal control exists because it is dangerous to allow loose animals go wild in the streets of a city.

ban backyard breeders!

seriously i go on craigslist and people offer "200 dollars for a purebred dog!" no paperwork, no nothing. and who knows how many litters that poor dog had, what kind of "defects" may have been bred into the puppies, etc.

and spay/neuter your pets people.

How about we just kill the dogs and feed them to the cats? Bet that reduces the food bill too!

The key here is what is the rate of recovery after 3 days as oppose to before 3 days. If the rate drops off sharply after 2-3 days to nearly nil, then the amount of time should be dropped.

If I had a pet . . . I don't think I could bring myself to spade/nuter them. Despite all the arguments, it just seems inhumane to me. Is there an equivalent to getting your tubes tied for animals? Then it could, well, do what it does normally, just not impreginate/get impreginated.

Not if people would fscking spay/neuter their animals. :|

"It's too expensive."

It's cheap as hell relative to the money you'll spend on food for the duration of the animals life. Don't get a pet if you can't afford it.

"That's cruel! I wouldn't want my balls chopped off!"

It's a dog/cat. It doesn't know the difference. Quit being an idiot.

I wonder how much this is goign to save the shelters in pet supplies and land usage. I dont like putting animals to sleep, but it is more humane toput them to sleep then to let them suffer while living neglected lives. Not to mention, that money could be spent on improving human conditions first.

If it will save money, make it 2 days. I do not wish to pay for the storage of your lost pet. Either this or increase the amount that an owner pays to retrieve a lost pet by a lot.
