92mm vantec stealth

i just installed a 92mm vantec stealth in my comp, and i think it might be defective. its making a humming/buzzing sound. is that normal since its a small fan? because the description said 20dB. and its pretty loud and annoying.

Vantec fans are terrible (well, the 80mms are sort of okay), and their specs are pretty much exagerrated or made up. Get a Nexus instead, you'll be happy you did.

damn, i thought the stealth line was good. i guess ill return it and get the nexus cuz i know nexus is great.
how about the zalman 123 fan? any good?

the zalman 123 fan is loud unless you use the resistor they have.

I agree with the above posters, Vantec Stealth fans are far from silent. Zalman fans aren't great at full speed either, but add in the resistor that they come with and then it's pretty good.

SPCR has a good recommended fans guide that gives you a primer on how to pick fans and a list of recommended fans for each size. All fans are geared towards silence.

My personal 2cents is go with Yate-Loon if you can get them. But in most cases, it's easier to find Nexus fans which are the same thing.

im pretty sure the yate loons are a bit faster then the nexus and nexus has higher quality control and it shows in the price. i dont think the place i ordered from has 92mm yate loons, so i think ill just go with the nexus. you can never go wrong with nexus or yate loon 🙂 im def returning this stealth fan and the fake uv lazer led lights that doesnt even light up my uv reactive stuff.

I also have a 92mm Stealth. Never had a problem with it. Are you sure the motor isn't off balance or the impeller uncaliberated?

Yate Loon and Nexus are the same fan. The only difference is the Nexus has a resistor built in to slow it down.

Still for 92mm I would go with Panaflo.

the stealth should definitely not be doing that. i had one on my cpu for a while, a 92mm also and it never made much noise, and was actually very silent. the downside to that is that it doesn't push as much air.

Yate Loon's are far quieter than a Vantec Stealth or any other fan I've heard. Unless you have the two fans side by side for a comparision it can be difficult to judge just how loud or quiet they are.

I have (3) 80mm Panaflo @ 5v and an 80mm Yate Loon @ 7v in my HTPC and I literally have to look at the led to tell if it's turned on or not. From 2 foot away the computer can't be heard at all. 🙂

I thought the Panaflo was quiet until I had a Yate Loon to compare it to. There is no doubt the Yate Loon is quieter. 😱

vantec stealth fans are just generic fans that have been rebadged. noticeable clicking and motor noise is common in them.

as mentioned, nexus are top of the line. Zalman's are not bad, I'd definitely get it over the Vantec as they are usually roughly the same price.

Vantec is a good brand!!

But I am not a fan of vantec!!
Just as people are not fans of other brands!!

Yates Loons are nice, as are panaflo`s....

I use mainly Zalman and ThermalRight......but bear in Mind I just don`t like a NOISY computer..... alittle sound is alright!!

I also have found the Vantec Stealth's to be...Well not very Stealthy.

Motor noise is noticable...Especially the 120m/m versions.

I too like some of the people who posted here do not care for Vantec Products.
