At 92 years old, and having been robbed 2 previous times for 90 head of cattle and $50,000 worth of guns (plus who knows what else wasn't listed in the article), this guy would likely have waited at the top of those stairs all night long rather than call the cops.

Can't say I blame him.

If he had 20 minutes, why not call the cops?

Kentucky law allows the use of physical force if someone believes it's needed to prevent criminal trespass, robbery or burglary in his or her house. Good for the old man. That sucker got what he deserved. He sounds like a feisty old bastard... what's another 20 minutes going to hurt to someone who went 92 years before having to defend his home with lethal force.

The cops are worthless in these situations. They will arrive too late.

When I heard noises at night, the 911 operator told me to search my house and call back if I find something.
They're probably sick of stupid white women calling them every time a mouse scratches at the wall. Remember that thing after 9/11 when anthrax was sent to government officials? Suddenly everybody over 50 was calling the police to report anthrax. That arguably made the city much more dangerous because resources were directed to chasing wild geese instead of responding to real crimes.
