Not worth trying to appeal, huh =/

Curiously though, I have learned my lesson. I now only do 80 on that road, and have purchased a Valentine One.

ouch ...how many points?

No idea yet.. gonna try and do the classes thing as substitution.

Anyone know whether the classes vs. points option is given by the judge, or by your insurance company?

Driving school to avoid points is given by the judge. Defensive driving classes are given by driving schools and can be used to reduce points after you receive them. They give you a certificate which you mail to your insurance company.

We ran away from a cop once. We were returning to a motel from a lengthy hike in Yosemite, so we were speeding +15 miles or so over the limit. We were pretty close to the gate where the regular highway starts when a ranger came from around the corner. Before he disappeared in the rearview mirror, I noticed he flipped on his lights. But since the road there is fairly narrow, it took him a while to do a U-turn.

By that time we hit the freeway, and quickly took the route up to the summit instead of going down to the motels. After a mile or so we did a U-turn and went back to the motels.

Guys, get good radar detectors now!

I get over the OP's speed during rush hour

Oh, and you can evade the cops. I evaded a DUI checkpoint once because my inspection stickers were expired by a week. Totally worth it.

QFT, this is 100% true. Especially in those West Bumfvck towns like Amherst, Hadley, Belchertown, etc. you're almost always the only car on the road. If there's no radar/laser being sprayed (?) to detect except the one already hitting your car, you're screwed.
EDIT: Actually, you're truly screwed because then the cop knows that you know you were speeding because you tried to brake from 90+ to 50 in time to try to not get bagged.

As a side note, the only ticket I ever had was because I had a detector in the first place. The cop's words to me: "If you didn't have that I'd have let you go." I chucked it, and never got a ticket since although I have been pulled over a few times since then (mostly on the Pike in the West Bumfvck towns).

Fight the ticket. When you get your summons, request a radar specialist. In WA state there are only 2 and if they don't show up for the hearing you get off. Most prosecuters will want to make a deal with you like lowering it to a violation that would not affect your insurance rates. You could take that out if you want.

Better a ticket than hitting a deer or something worse I suppose. Doesn't sound like you did learn your less though, as you're still speeding, and bought a radar detector. Although you may have learned, it wasn't the lesson intended for you to learn. :|

Obviously if you didn't get into an accident and kill someone then the speed limit was set too low in error.
Take it to court, explain that you were driving at a safe speed and that the limit was just too low.
Go further to explain that speeding tickets being given to safe drivers do not serve the cause of safety, and instead are an additional tax on drives, and that clearly, your case should be dropped.

When that fails, please post it on AT so I can laugh at your misfortune.
Thank you.

It helps if the cops is driving with a radar on all the time (which they do here in remote areas). They have to establish visual contact with you, radar reading alone is not enough. So, they have to be within 300 ft or so (I forget exact figure) from your car to nail you.

Since detector raises alarm miles away, you have all the time in the world to slow down.

did he even mention that he could have gotten you for evading police or something?

yeah, he said he should be taking me to jail but he knew my parents or something so he was "letting me off" with a ticket for 35 over.
