Please don't post if you have no idea what you're talking about. They are inefficient engines. Their specific fuel consumption is higher than a piston engine. Only one car of all the cars made today use a rotary engine. This should tell you something.

Looks like you've got all the bases covered.

The combustion chambers of Wankel engines are extremely long, so a lot of the combustion heat (which provides the pressure for the torque) is drained away into the coolant.

Hah, my uncle was telling me about this today, a guy somewhere in PA w/ a company called Moster Miata will take a stock mustang 5.0L V8 and put it into a miata and do other performance mods for 12k. The things go 0-60 in around or under 3 seconds, basically a viper killer.

wouldn't putting that 5.0 in the engine bay cause some serious weight balance problems.

i would hate to be driving that monster in snow.

From what I have read in the past when I have researched 5.0 Miata's the weight difference of an Aluminum 5.0 is only like 50-100 lbs more than than the miata motor fully loaded...

I am so DOING this when I but the new motor in my mustang, as I will have a Motor,Tranny,Brake Setup... etc... from my mustang left over :). I think a miata would be BAD ASS to drive with a torquey 5.0 motor in it :p

why would you drive a project car like that along with low profile sport tires in the snow?

Nothing new, but still awesome. 5.0 swaps have been around forever. On the other hand, there has been a couple of LS1 Miata finishing up, and I find that to much more appealing than the 5.0s. There has been the FC20 swaps (S2000), and I think someone had a SR20DET too. 5.0 is the most common one though.

Regarding the Rotary Miata, some guy over here brought a Rotary Miata (Twin Turbo B13 from an RX7) out to a local autocross event. The thing sounded absolutely wicked and launched like a bat out of hell. Quite possibly the loudest blowoff valve I have ever heard. The driver was pretty good, and it was a very quick car overall. Not a bad idea for a swap, but a few issues.

Forced Induction Rotary reliability is always low, and maintanence costs are always high when you have to rebuild the engine constantly. Expensive and difficult to get, espically the TT B13 from a FD RX7 (well, when compared to a much more common 5.0). Simply put, there is a much larger supply of 5.0s available that fit just fine and perform just as well for much cheaper than a Rotary Swap would cost. Then there is the issue of burning oil, bad gas mileage, and lack of torque. While a cool and high performing swap, in terms of practicality, the 5.0 is hard to beat, and the B13 is on the bottom of the list.

Regardless, all engine swaps are cool, and I bet that 92 is QUICK.

Who said anything about driving around a low profile tire car in the snow?

Rotaries are heavier then you think and 5.0l fords are lighter then you think especially if you throw on some aluminum heads.

Actually using Ford engines is the norm.

There is only one running LS1 miata that I know of.....

wow, ok then. I am sort of suprised, but not real since Mazda/Ford are =+1.

Yup. I remember first hearing about the Monster Miata 5.0 swap over 10 years ago, maybe closer to 15.

RB26DETT

If you must bastardize the car an LS1 is a must (yes I know it is 350ci).............

Edit and if you aren't modding the motor just put the swap money into a 300+hp NA L28
