Maybe if you weren't posting so much you could have kept the virus definitions up to date. ;)

hahahahaha. thats my workday too

edit: if there is a way to track post count over time, you would see a huge increase starting around the winter time in 2003 (i.e. when i began to work).

The problem is that I sit at a computer all day long waiting for something to break. So I have plenty of time to waste.

This isn't the kind of job that you'd mess around with the systems when they're up and running just because you don't have anything else to do. On the contrary, it's against policy to do that. If I brought down an active work server because I had some downtime and I felt like doing something, that wouldn't go well with the company.

Servers running = good job, let them stay that way

Servers go down= fix them asap and don't leave until they're running again

No, it actually didn't have a name yet. It's a new type of worm related to W32.Spybot that can give intruders access to the system. The latest Symantec virus defs didn't detect it so they had to send us a new one.

Tell me you're not still at work in the time I've had to work a full day, come home, taken care of dinner, packed up a moving box, and gotten drunk. That would really suck for you.

How'd you know about it?

While removing another virus from the registry, we noticed that there were other processes that kept running when they shouldn't have been.

We sent the infected processes to Symantec and they analysed them. They confirmed that it was a new variant and then they wrote a virus definition for it.
