NFS4 you really seem to go off like you get to drive these cars allot or something and you are some kind of expert on europe power. But I thought you were just a college boy?? You give all this flak about Automatics being such crap.. Why don't you read about (cause that seems to be where all your experience comes from) but see how long your clutch lasts behind an engine with REAL HP and Torque. Try the HP of a supercharged Ford 512 BB and watch your flywheel scorch in 1 second. Notice how these motors are backed by Automatics.

Auto's just LOPE huh... Drop a C-4 out of a plane and it'll still work, Lets see what all the tranny's you READ about do.

SVTPower

He is probabaly alluding to the fact that only REAL exotics have manuals - unless you have that pimping genuine triptronic setup. Most cars with an automatic don't have that (or CVT), which means they have a torque convertor, which in turn means that compared to their standard counterpart not only are they less enjoyable to drive but they are also slower.

I'm just sick of him thinkin cause of what he READS is what makes him this car expert. They drive allot different then in the NFS video games too.

Actually if you look at all the fastest cars like in Fords they are running C-4's or T-350's or 400's.. An Automatic can shift 100X faster then any human and if you have the torque and HP of a real engine then the little loss is not noticed. Why would anyone in performance cars leave thier Tranny stock this is such an important part.

All the guys at the drag strip never get in the 8's with Manuels either

NFS4 does get rather annoying with his holier-than-thou attitude 🙂

seriously though, has he actually even seen these cars? or is he just a bookworm who thinks that everything written in C&D and R&T is sacred?

Well NFS4 reads more than just some mags and start talking. He always has a link to a different care website every time. He also doesn't say that NFS is where his "opinions" come from. You said that they drive different than in the NFS video games. When have you driven a 360 Modena or a 911 Turbo?

When you talk about automatics you have to realize what you are using the tranny for. I certainly wouldn't want to play around town with a powerglide and 4.56 gears. In a supercar that is made for top speeds and curves, an auto is simply not gonna cut it. Sure, an average driver could make due with an auto, but a manual requires more than just pressing the gas. It requires coordination of your senses and limbs. Also, a manual gives you a lot better control, gas mileage, and overall "feeling" of a car.

At the dragstrip things are different. I have 4.10 gears in my mustang. I drag a lot and don't do a lot of top speed runs or too much highway driving. If you wanted top speed in a new GT like mine, then 3.73's or 3.55's would probably be your best bet. At the strip 4.10's rules. I have an auto. It is great at the strip. It shifts fast and hard and I do not have to worry about botching my shifts. On the street it is not as fun. I wish I had 6 gears, or even 5 rather than my lowly 4. Yes, you can shift mine a lot like a manual. I do it all the time in fact. It lets you have the RPMs you want or helps you pass that pesky Buick. Fact is, it doesn't have as good a rev-matching or as good a control as a manual does.

In a supercar manuals rule!

Thats right NFS is gonna come out of his college and get his 6 figure job cause his councelor told him it's a good field then he will have all his expensive cars he talkes about. I also can't wait when a $30K SVT with mods blows his european doors off.

<< Lupin,

Have you put that aftermarket manifold on your M3 yet? I hear that manifolds can seriously change the low end torque of your car.
>>

Nah.. I'd try to keep most of the internals stock. The car is a track car, and it's still a long time before I can drive at the limit of the car on the track. Before that day comes, most mods I do will prolly geared toward preparing it for the track. i.e: oil pan baffle, brake duct, etc.

SVTPower,
I'm not a big fan of NFS4, but he certainly is better educated than you. And I'm not talking college either. NFS4 knows what real sport cars are, and he knows what REAL MOTORSPORTS are. You don't, so STFU.

SVT makes nice cars. Too bad their reputation is ruined by stupid fans like you.

JVTpower

Although it hardly has to be mentioned do you even know what NFS4 is taking in college? For all we know NFS4 is sitting on a $2 million inheritance and in 5 years is going to go car shopping in Beverley Hills.

And its true - a $30k car modded to hell will annialate a $200,000 ferarri in the 1/4 - but take it around a real race course and I think it will be a different matter all together...Anyway, can you really drive an 8/sec camaro to work? Are people going to look at your car humbled as much as when they lay their eyes on a nice new ferarri? - Those things are made absolutely and totally for drag racing and straight end, these european cars are made to be worshiped 🙂

lupin

So when did I say driving a 8 second car to work was what I do. My point was that I'm tired of hearing about how much better all the cars are that HE Thinks are so much better then everyone elses.

I'd buy and Drive a 25K Z28 Anyday before I'd buy a Porshe and drive it to work.

BTW what a good call to say he's so much more educated then I am. So when are we having beers next since you know me so damn well?

I have a 99 lightning and running a 13.9 from the factory is pretty cool. I have plenty of room to talk. I actually get to DRIVE this vehicle unlike what NFS reads about.

<< I have a 99 lightning >>

That was the other SVT vehicle I was thinking of. Please don't even say it can actually "handle" good. BTW, I would rather have a new porsche or ferrari over a mustang anyday. This is coming from someone who loves mustangs. The 1/4 is not everything to me. BTW, if you wanna talk about price vs. performance then you should have bought a 5.0 and modded it. You also could have bought a 4.6L DOHC cobra and strapped a blower on it. There is also the LS1, which is the only GM product that I would actually buy.

I Would take the PORSHE 911 TURBO anyday, anytime over any other sports car. IT WILL BRAKE UR NECK IN UNDER 3secs 😉

Speaking of vehicles I'll never own I was checking through the dupoint registry at airport just now and there is some dealership somewhere and all they sell is hummers - I saw a pic it was like a picture of little tonka cars 🙂

THen I flicked to the pages that said "Mclaren F1 - only 1200 miles!" That was music to my ears on account of the fact I've been looking far and wide for an Mf1 with under 5,000 and this fit the bill *cough* *bullsh|t*.

Then some nice lamborghinis and porsches.

SVTPower,

Read over the entire thread a couple of times, you might realize the way you're acting and also why they insulted your intelligence. They weren't trying to act as if they knew everything about you.

Anyways, I find it interesting that the 911 Turbo beats the 360 Modena. I like Porsche and Ferrari, they both make great cars. I don't know where all these other cars crept into the conversation though, this is about the 911 Turbo and the 360 Modena, not 996-whatevers and Maranello(sp)'s and Camaros and Mustangs and SVT-this-and-thats! 😀

I'll have to tend to agree with most of what NFS4 is saying here. I've known him to be very knowledgable about this stuff in the past, and his nick (NFS4) also relates to it. He's a smart guy, why are you trying to argue with him?

Now, here's my opinion: Camaros suck, Mustangs suck, and so do SUVs. 😛

I know tons of people would object to that, but it's just my opinion, so calm down. I know they don't all actually "suck", I just dislike them. Not that I would mind having a Camaro or Mustang, but I'd much prefer a Honda S2000, Prelude (not the new model, UGLY!!), Acura Integra, NSX... I absolutely love the look of Porsches and Ferraris, they simply kick ass.

I definitely would not want to spend big bucks on a car and get an automatic transmission with it. If I'm buying some shietbox (for now, a shietbox=anything under $40-50K 🙂), I don't really mind that much if it were automatic, but for a Porsche or Ferrari, I don't want a stinkin' automatic! 🙂

But please also keep in mind, I am 16, and have never driven any of these cars. I have seen Porsches and Ferraris, but never driven 'em. 😉

I once saw an Acura NSX while biking home from something (I forget what), it was so friggen sweet, my jaw nearly dropped! Great looking car.

<< Now, here's my opinion: Camaros suck, Mustangs suck >>

I hope you brought your flame suit

Once you start driving you'll learn to appreciate a car for its power and grace rather than just its looks. Looks are nice but they don't make a car faster (please ignore the realm of aerodynamics here please 🙂)

RSI

Only thing about NSX's is that I always thought they looked too much like a ferarri...perhaps I was ignorant, but still!

I simply can't come to terms with being in an exotic and flooring it and everything being taken care of for me. If you're cruising along on 5th/6th gear at 70 mph and you are pissed at the person in front and have to make that evident, there is only one way to do it: Grab that stick like you're pissed, rev high and drop the clutch back in baby!

Plus then when you take your ocassional lucky friends out for drives they won't think you're a panzy "Yeah his ferarri is sweet...but its an automatic; damn guy doesn't deserve to own it." And for people considering the purchase if you can't drive a 5-speed learn goddamn it.

What genocide means is that when you're driving around in your old automatic honda accord with a 0-60 of 10 seconds you'll look over at the muscle cars and yearn for some power 🙂

<< So when did I say driving a 8 second car to work was what I do. My point was that I'm tired of hearing about how much better all the cars are that HE Thinks are so much better then everyone elses. >>

And I'm tired of hearing pony cars owner brag about their $30,000 car, modded beating a Ferrari. The fact is Ferraris ARE much better than anything else on the road.

<< BTW what a good call to say he's so much more educated then I am. So when are we having beers next since you know me so damn well? >>

Is it really a good call ? I don't know you well.. but when you see somebody on the street running naked, you know something is wrong with their head.

<< I have a 99 lightning and running a 13.9 from the factory is pretty cool. I have plenty of room to talk. I actually get to DRIVE this vehicle unlike what NFS reads about. >>

You're being arrogant here. Yes you drive a car that runs 13.9 from the factory, NFS4 doesn't. So what? I drive a piece motorsport legend for my weekend car, and that's a real one. STFU.

Whadheyl? I leave for the day and I get stomped:Q

Yes, I read car mags, yes I watch a lot of motorsports, yes I know specs on just about any car available, and yes I get to ride in the occasional $$$$ sports car😉

But that's it...I was not arguing something tangible, I was arguing FACT. So on that end, you don't have a leg to stand on.

You don't know me so don't act like you do...

What cars have you ridden in NFS4? Notice how I haven't said anything against you and thus I'm not trying to mock - just that the nicest car I've been in is a saab 🙁 How sad.

I've been in a '98 Vette, late model Porsche, BMW 328i, '98 Mustang GT, '97 Mustang GT convertible, '97 Camaro Z28, etc...

And I've had the pleasure of sitting in a 355 Berlinetta droooooooooooool 🙂

"Once you start driving you'll learn to appreciate a car for its power and grace rather than just its looks. Looks are nice but they don't make a car faster"

That may be true, but the fact of the matter is that in almost every case, looks are proportionate to power under the hood. If one is going to invest millions in R&D in making a car look bloody great, they better damn well make sure the damn thing can fly as well.

My point: almost ALL good looking cards have plenty of power and grace to tap, but not all powerful cars are necessarily strikingly good looking. Take the Japanese cars - the Skyline and the supra for example. Sure they look fast, but they look nothing like say, the Maranello or the Carerra GT - which are obvious supercars. Even the Viper GTS looks rather normal , but boy can it go.

And the best car I have personally had the pleasure to push is in fact a Modena. The jerk and bang of your head against the seat in all the glory of full Gs - there's simply nothing like it. And the every ready low rumble from the engine - very low when idle but yet letting you clearly know that it's forever ready to take off - wow. And as you rev even past the 7s and the 8s it still feels as if there's so much left in there - nothing like driving a supercar. And if the 911 turbo is better, I can only drool.
