Acts of GOD are oh so differant than a murderous act of MAN. The loss of one life because of an act of man (murder) is far worse than the loss of a 150,000 people because of an act of GOD.

911was never a big thing, only because of your weird outcries. The tsunami is a big thing. Not not all too big. AIDS is a _Big_ thing!

AIDS, is in my beilief is GODs way of puninshing the promiscuous behavior of a sinner. If you remain monogomous, then you have no worry of AIDS or punishment from GOD.

I think its stupid to try and compare them

both (and any tragic event for that matter) are really sad

My heart goes out to everyone who has had to deal with loss/injury of a loved one due to 911 or Tsunami disaster 🙁

Tsunami.

unlike what american media wants you to think, no other nation cared that much about it. same way we care about tsunami..

but 9/11 affected how many countries?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

the world changed forever on that day.

the world also changed forever when this natural disaster tragedy occurred, but both are completely different

Well, since we all know Iraq was behind 9/11 , we went to war with Iraq and also alienated many countries. The strain on the US economy from Iraq is also driving down the dollar (I think that's a big reason) which affects the whole world

Well for Americans I think 9/11 was worse. All of a sudden you are at war with everyone and anyone could be a terrorist.

For most others it is the tsunami, the countries struck by it obviously worst. Just here in Sweden 1100 are still missing, which is alot considering our population. Kids are returning home on planes alone, people who were vacationing are still there volunteering carrying around dead bloated bodies and so on. The way it changes our way of life is in that almost everyone knows somebody who got washed away...

I applaud the government of the USA for being there and helping out.

It's like comparing apples & oranges. I'm a NY-er, thus 9/11 affected me more directly. And it affected the state of mind of Americans and the political balance of the world more. On the other hand, the tsunami has killed hundreds of thousands (probably by the time the counts are done) and affected more than 9 countires directly, and changed millions of lives in that part of the world. One is a sudden act of Mother Nature's fury, the other a evil plot by men. But, every single death in either terrible event is tragic and unfortunate. However, the tsunami presents us with the rare opportunity to do some good and help our fellow man. Perhaps that will have even longer reaching consequences than 9/11?

In Terms of Impact, 9/11 was much more devastating but in terms of human loss then of course the tsunami would 1st.

This is a strange thread. My favorite moment was reading the post by the guy who claimed that the BBC does not concern itself with the tsunami when, as an avid bbc news reader, I can state with certainty that the BBC has had absolutely insane coverage of the disaster on their site. There are at any given time 4 billion links to stories, aid sites, etc. on the bbc news site.

The tsunami was a much greater disaster until you consider the aftermath. American society has taken a huge turn for the worse since 9/11. For the few weeks after it, there was some serious unity. Since then, our culture has turned into paranoid divisive hate mongers. Myself included. Say whatever you want about GWB, but I am certain he accurately represents around 50% of the voting public. Americans are divided, and the two sides are growing more and more intolerant of each other.

The think about the rest of the world. Extremely divided in the long term after 9/11. Terrorist attacks during elections that may or may not cause strange results. Regular national hatred among countries. Hack filmmakers gaining disproportionate fame for criticizing other hack filmmakers who criticize the government.

I think that the Tsunami's aftermath has so far been a positive force for the world in terms of unity and politics. It's still pretty early, maybe it won't last (as 9/11 unity didn't), but right now I have been very impressed with the way people have come together after the Tsunami. This for me makes me think that 9/11 was worse, because the mentality of so many people was altered (rightly or wrongly), and so much negative energy exists as a result of it.

There's no mentality of hating who did this (except possibly people hating their gods), no mentality of us vs them.

And for those of us who don't believe in a higher power. I disagree with you to say the least.

I'm a God fearing man and disagree to say the least also.

I would personally say that 9/11 was a larger disaster because of how it effects the entire world... economy, fear, death, war, etc...

Not saying the Tsunami wont affect the entire world either... it will, and it's sad... etc, but that's just my opinion.

I agree, ignorance is bliss. And that is what religion is all about.

I know why people go to church after something like this. They can't handle reality, so they are willing to turn to ANYTHING for comfort. THAT is why people "find" something (God) that was never there. If they were brought up to believe in Santa Clause and Santa Clause was all they knew, guess what, they'd find Santa Clause after an event like this. No amount of facts will convince them otherwise. Why? Because life can't be that cruel.

So yes, ignorance IS bliss.

You should be embarassed that you can not see other people's point of view. You should be ashamed that you can not look at things from another perspective.
Being clueless about others is nothing to brag about.

As an aside, I haven't gone to Church in four years, but at least I understand why those people do the things they do, i.e. pray after a disaster. I am not much of a practicing Christian but I can look at things from other people's perspectives.
Try it one day.

You know what is funny, I WAS on that side for 25yrs. Why don't you come on my side for awhile now? It looks like I'm the one who can truely see both sides. Not going to chirch for four years doesn't mean jack squat. You still haven't changed your views on anything. Talk about being clueless.

god this guy is such a tool.

Hey King of Idiots a.k.a. Nik. You said the bodies of 9/11 had more impact on the "world"? Don't think so retard! Never ever was there such a big solidarity under the countries. Switzerland sent more than $100,000,000 and other countries are also sending even more help. I think this event CAN change(already changed) the world in the way of helping out each other.

not really a fair comparison to make since 911 was man's intention while Tsunami was natural disaster

I'd go for Tsunami considering the death toll and the countries affected

911: Local use of a very small portion of nature's power as implemented in the form of jets.

Tsunami generated by the Indian Ocean earthquake: Large part of nature's raw and awesome power revealed in the water and on land--globally.

These are different human events that IMHO can't be compared as to which is worse. Both were deadly. Both are forcing major changes. Both are emptying the reservoir of human tears.

Another good tsunami photo gallery link posted elsewhere, http://chamorrobible.org/gpw/gpw-20050103.htm . It's multi-part, and the first two images in part 5 will leave you speechless.
