XTreme-G 91.47

91.47 WHQL Driver

It seems Nvidia wants to continue the trend of having Transparent AA for 6 series owners.
Just thought I'd bump it for that :)

For those of you that don't know what Transparent AA is:
Transparency Adaptive AA: A Closer Look
Transparency AA (Techreport)

Well, it appears that TRAA works (MS, and SS) on 6x series cards.

Also, the driver was designed for the GX2 but with a moddified inf it'll run great on any card. I like them (and use them). They actually fell and look (ever so slightly) better then the 91.37's.

Edit: After reading more into their forum, I CAN CONFIRM THAT TRAA WORKS WITH 6x Cards :)

Edit2: TRAA on 6 series card (comparison, with no and with), from GOZ

Thats very nice for 6x users. Not sure why NV was hiding it, perhaps to bolster 7x sales. ATi hid it as well, and it wasnt until several months later that they officially supported it.

No, I belive that both the XG driver and the stock driver has it. You need a modded inf anyway, so just get the XG to save you the trouble of doing it yourself.

This is after nvidia told me (through Rollo) that Transparency AA wasn't possible on nv4x.... - just like NSR wasn't possible on GeForce 1...

I really don't know why they insist on pulling idiotic stunts like this...

Nice to *finally* have the feature exposed though.

Whats NSR????
(wasn't around in those days ;))

I just started getting in to the computer "scene" about the time of the Geforce 2/3 and even then, I was no expert.

Sry for getting OT :)

NSR = Nvidia Shading Rasterizer, the precursor to pixel shaders. Most famous usage of feature was in Giants: Citizen Kubuto.

This is a good move on nVidia's part.

Now both vendors need to pull their finger out and make it work in OpenGL games.

TRAA on 6 series card (from GOZ on tweaksrus)

That's a wierd comparison, as it looks like there isn't any AA on the non-transparent pic at all.

edit: cool for all the NV4x users though. transparent AA and AAA are a really nice development from the current gen.

I wonder if they are using an alternate method to do it on NV4x? Shaders? Or were they just hiding it?

The pic changes with time. It changes from AA to TRAA then back again. Give it time. You'll see ;)

I can see that it changes... However, it doesn't change from 4xAA to 4xtrAA, but from 0AA to 4xtrAA. I'm not saying that the drivers don't make trAA work, just that the comparison those guys posted isn't showing a comparison between regular AA and trAA.... Look at it again. You'll see ;)

I could see the difference with SS, but not really with MS...is that how it's supposed to be?

It was noticeably slower with SS, but it would be very playable if i backed down to 1024 rather than 1280...

Yep. the MSAA variant is a little useless IMHO.

Why not split the difference and go for 1152x864?

MS doesn't work in all games but when it does it's really good for games with a lot of vegetation like Far Cry as it significantly reduces sparkling with next to no performance hit.

Yup.
However, with a rig like mine, I don't think I've ever used TRMS. Plus I find it hard to see the difference (Maby I'm not looking hard enough :p)

Hey, just curious what the difference in AA quality is between, say, 4xTRAA and 4xS AA. I see an option called "4xS" AA in my list of available AA options in NTweak. I think there's also a TRAA mode but I am curious which looks better and which performs better. Thanks.

4xS doesn't work on the modern cards since they can't perform it anymore.

Transparent AA (TRAA) performce AA to Alpha Textures like trees, fences, etc. It's completly different from normall AA and is independent as well.

Don't you have an ATI video card?? (according to rig in sig)
