Ok, my new list

What is the difference between the M2400 35w Athlon and the AMD64 2800+ ?? aside from price....

A64 2800+ OEM - $173
Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu - $36
Chaintech VNF3-250 - $88
2x Mushkin PC3200 DDR400 - $154
SAPPHIRE ATI R9800 PRO - $199
Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM 8MB SATA - $66
NEC 8X Beige Dual Layer - $79.99
Antec SLK2650-BQE w/ 350W - $65

Total = $932.78 (S & H and Tax included)

I'd drop a stick of memory for now - and upgrade the HDD to a larger 7K250. Otherwise looking good 🙂

Put a price you want to spend on the computer, Monitors are all over the board depending on how much you want to spend on one, you can get a 500 dollar LCD or a 100 dollar CRT, or a 300dollar CRT or a 1000 dollar LCD, pick out a budget for only the computer, or include more specifics on the monitor you would like.

I thought I stated on the front page I have no need for monitor, mouse, keyboard etc....

I'm only looking for the system.

I'd have to go dig up the benchmarks, but in games the overclocked Mobile Athlon is faster than the non-overclocked Athlon 64 2800+. And if you wanted to go $50 over budget and get a slower hard drive, you could even put a 6800GT on the Mobile Athlon system.

All you guys recommending the Athlon 64 system are just squeezing the budget a little too tight. You're having to get the Athlon 64 2800+, but that CPU is slower than a Mobile Athlon is going to be at 12x200, which every one I've seen is able to hit at under 1.85v. The Athlon 64 2800+ is locked. Aren't you going to need better memory to overclock it?
From what I've seen (benchmarks @ tech report), a Barton at 2.4GHz is just about on par with a Newcastle at 1.8GHz. And no, you don't need faster memory to overclock the A64 - just raise the bus, which can go up to 300 easily with an nForce3 250 board (assuming the BIOS has a setting that high, unlike the chaintech :/), lock the memory at DDR400, and you're set.

I'd rather get a GeForce 6800 and AXP Mobile than a 9800 Pro and A64, though, if you can't have the 6800+A64 option.
