I currently have a 90 Eclipse GS and will be getting a 96 Honda Accord DX. I was wondering the power difference between the 2. Is there some sort of formula, or just a rough guess?

The Eclipse GS is a 1.8L 92 horsepower @ 5500 RPM (manual) , at around 2500 to 2600 pounds. The accord is 2.2L 130 HP @ 5200 RPM (automatic), at around 3000 pounds. Can anyone tell me what I will expect of a power increase? The really don't like my Eclipse because it's so danged slow, and I'm hoping the Accord will be a little faster. Unfortuneately I can't test drive it, because it's being shipped from my grand parents back east. Thanks for the help!

It's an automatic Accord, it's likely to be as slow as the Eclipse.

HP/weight ratio:

Accord: 130/3000 = .00433
Eclipse: 92/2550 = .00360

So with a manual you'd definitely notice the difference, but it's an auto so I dunno.

Thanks for the input. I usually don't rev my Eclipse too high, I'm easy on a car, so maybe the difference will be ok. More comments welcome!!

EDIT: Here's a link to the exact specs of both cars. Linkage

I always thought it was weight/power because you want to see how many pounds each HP has to drag around. So it'd be

3000/120= 23 lbs/hp

2550/92= 28 lbs/hp

If those are the correct horsepower and weight specs, each HP on the eclipse has to pull around alot more weight than the accord.

Either way comes up with the same results, just remember that you want a low weight/hp or a high hp/weight.

Did they lower the output of the Accord engines? Because the 4-banger in my 91 wagon is 140 HP.
