90 degree cpu

i was playing cs for an hour all of a sudden its shuts off
i restart and its said the cpu was 90 degrees.......wtf

never had this problem before
help
 
i thought you meant a 90 degree angle in the title at first 😛

it could be your fan/heatsink thing unmounted

i restarted computer after 15 minutes and now it stays at 50 degrees
no overclock
 
guessing this is an intel chip right? amd would of melted by 90 degrees.

edit LOL 90 degrees on a A64.....man!

have u used sticky back tape to put the HSF on? the stock HSF should be pretty decent, 50 degree idle is way too high, mine doesnt load that high.

get some AS5 and reapply
 
im using the heat sinka nd fan that came with the amd chip. didnt add more thermal grease. the cpu went over 70 degrees again....so i shut it off. is it possible that the mobo is giving it too much power?? im a noob...pz help
 
did you install the heat sink and then remove it and then re-install without chaging the thermal pad. if so theres your problem. i did that to my sempron 2400 and cpu temp went to 70+ on start then i applied some thermal compuind and its load 40 C
 
umm dude you really need to open your machine up and check it out.

take the sink off, and re apply some as5, then reseat the sink properly. Then check again. If still no luck and the voltages are the same, I say get a new mobo... heck!
 
Is the Heatsink Hot? If it isn't hot, then I think you have a problem with it making contact. Just reseat it with some AS5 or other quality thermal compound and see if that drops the temps.
 
I dont see how a 3200+ would get that hot, my one with stock heatsink, overclocked by 12.5% and the original thermal paste reused 3 times get to 50 degrees on full load and thats onlty due to the fact thats its like 35 degrees ambient at my place (australian summer no aircon)

THere must be something wrong, the heatsink is probably not seated right.
Touch the heatsink and see if its hot, if it is at 70 degrees that should almost burn ur finger, if its not hot then its either the mainboard reporting wrong temps or the sink is not mounted properly.
 
i waited a bit and touch the heatsink
it is hot. removed it and claening off the grease, going to buy some artic silver and apply it on.
 
did what u guys told me....clean off old grease and used artic silver....now idles 42ish
when i play counterstrike source for like 30 minutes....it creeps up to 60ish.....is that safe??
 
I noticed you said you have an Aspire X-Qpack. Is the 120mm fan you have installed being used as an Exhaust? If so, you might want to reverse the direction and use it as an intake. There really isn't any sense in having a 120mm exhaust and a Power supply as an exhaust system as too. The power supply with serve that purpose already.

Also, 60c after 30 minutes of 100% load is nothing for that system with a bundle HSF. It's compact so it's going to generate that kind of heat no matter what. If you take a look at Josh's review. You're not that far off base considering he used a an aftermarket heatsink (Zalman 7000?).
