Look on the label, if it says Made In Japan then the discs are Taiyo Yuden. Not very likely in this case since Memorex is using less of their discs recently. There are still some 100 packs around that are Japanese made, but most everything they are shipping now are Taiwanese. It always seems like the ones on sale are Taiwanese also. Still worth looking to see, a little luck's always nice.

For a while almost all the 100 packs were TY's and almost all of the 50's were Taiwan junk. There were a few Taiwan 100's and some Japan 50's around, but those were pretty rare. I have no idea what the status might be on the 30 packs though, I've never bought those before or even checked the labels. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky. Got to be near a CompUSA tomorrow anyway, so it'll be worth popping in to check.

Frankly, I never understood this unhealthy obsession with TY. Haven't had problems burning any other types of discs.

seems like TY discs last a long time. Cheapo discs may not give you any problems when you burn, but are you sure they will last 5 years or more?

I hope this isn't one per person deal. I want to order like 9 online.

Anyone know how many CD-R combos they allow per customer?

I don't know about you, but I really don't feel like reburning the 12,000 cdrs I have burned onto new media so I would like them to last.

Man, I have about 1200-1500 and I thought that was bad, now I feel like a slacker. And for all those who think there's no difference between TY's and cheapo's, take a TY and a made in Taiwan piece of junk and leave them on the dashboard of your car on a 90 degree day. See which one plays afterward and you'll never use bad CD-Rs again.

Has anyone gotten on the deal already? If so could you post ATIP plz? I might give them a try if they are prodisk...

You better hurry. These will fly off the shelves.

How can I tell, I just bought some and will post if you tell me . All I know is they are made in Taiwan.

How fast were they flying off the shelves? Was it limit 3 per customer?

Here is Charlotte, NC they were flying off the shelves (every person I saw had at least 3 30 packs in their hands). I got in on 9 30 packs myself 😛. Total cost was ~$24. These are 48x cd-rs. No limit at my local store 🙂

Same here. Burned many different brands with nary a failure or problem.

They're CMC Magnetics, pretty much complete junk, but they're cheap, so suitable for givaways and stuff you burn for your friends. No limit and as others have mentioned, they were flying off the shelves. It seemed that every customer has at least 3 and the clerk said he had refilled the display 3 times already as of around noon. When I was there he was refilling it with the last batch they had from the back and when those were gone the store would be out.

If you don't understand the obsession with TYs, then you prolly haven't been archiving CDs long enough or making enough CDs to notice.
I still pick up plain ol' media like the Memorex just mentioned, NEVER for any archiving... I've had quite a few fail on my during the burn process and many may burn right but don't exactly play right.

Still great deal since there's no rebate. I picked up 3 packs of 30 as well as some Fuji DVD blanks. The store was GLUTTED with those at the time.

Yep, same here. Have a couple of spindles of Fuji TYs sitting around for the important stuff. VCD/SVCDs go on any ol CD-R...which will probably be replaced by DVD-Rs by the time the CD-Rs fail.

Got three spindles, my store had none at the display but plenty of them in the metal backet some ten feet away. Anyway first I'd like to say that IR applies to each spindle individually so you can buy only one or two spindles if you like, dunno if you can snatch more than three for that price though.

And ATIP - as it turns out these are prodisks which are supposed to be pretty decent for noname, at least much better than CMC, although as with every cheap media the quality may vary. I'll use them for pr0n and family photos... 😉

I'm wondering. Would BB or CC price match this thing even though there is no Compusa around here? Any one had an experince?
Thanks

Made one test CD 72 minutes total. I don't have a LiteOn a Premium to do C1/C2 analysis, but every test available to me ie speed test, surface test and CD Quality test in nero CD speed came out perfect. So I'd say it's safe to but a spindle or two for non-essential stuff, however I still wouldn't trust burning important data on anything but TY.

You could always try. After all this is not a MIR deal which usually cannot be pricematched, but IR. However if you are going to pricematch you have to do it today since it's one-day sale only and you better take some proof that CompUSA has them at that price with you which is gonna be hard since you can't take a flyer and CUSA website does not have promotion listed. Try finding the flyer in acrobat reader format (I think I saw it here on the forum) or get a CompUSA phone number for BB manager to verify the price. GL.

EDIT, found the flyer in pdf format: http://www.compusa.com/product_images/pdfs/preprint/F71947B2EE670303/wrap_cover.pdf

NYC: 37th and 5th avenue @ 2p

a few left at front entrance stack when I left, upper level had roughly 50 in its usual location.

picked up 3, other group next to me picked up 6. it seemed they were going away pretty fast.
