Supposed that these kids actually ended up hurting or killing the same person(s) they threatened on the paper. Parents of victims would say "Why didn't they stop this? They had the signs." Etc, etc.

If you do stop them, then you get the initial responses to this topic (generally).

While I agree with you to a certain extent, there was probably a milder way to do something about it though. And it could've been escalated to something more dramatic (such as this) later on, if the two kids continued on this path.

But this certainly nips the problem in the bud.

That's what I was looking at....seems like they need to be in school more than in jail.

It's bad enough that we have a higher percentage of our population in jail than any other country, but the stupidity of some of the underlying charges (like the ones in this case) really pisses me off.

If the kids had actually labelled the picture with the name of their classmate and such, then it could be considered a threat. If you drew pictures of yourself killing your boss or something like that, I'm sure that would be grounds for being arrested.

better to head off thoughts like that now than let them get older and actually have the means to do it rather than just draw it.

But I do think it's overkill to take them away in handcuffs and such.
