Man, finally got one from one of the office depots. They must have restocked or something. I hope mine won't have the buzzing noise.

I bought one on sunday for my folks. Its the same model/rating I have for myself (the 725va version) that I bought a year ago but its in a big box with the usb cable and surge in seperate packages. My rebate receipt says only "1 per household or business" and valid for instore only.... Still a bargain at $60. I think I paid $70 or so last year at Officemax for just the ups.

woot, picked up the last one they had at a local office depot.

be sure to sign up for the Office Depot Advantage program. if you spent at least $200 in during a 3 month period, you get a $20 gift card. rewards go up from there. you can sign up online even after you made your purchase (and include the purchase you just made)

If you make 2 or 3 decent sized purchases, then you may just end up crossing the $200 mark.

OK, I got an A in statistics and I know that the odds of my experiencing a power failure in my lifetime while flashing a mainboard BIOS are in the neighborhood of 10,000:1, and that's probably generous. Then, to justify buying a UPS on that basis, if I assume $5 worth of the UPS goes toward insuring my mainboard, I better have a $50,000 mainboard to justify it.

My HD is probably a bigger issue, not because it's in another order of magnitude of cost but because it has information on it. I can buy a new mainboard for $100, $200 tops, same for a HD. But I backup pretty frequently and wouldn't suffer too badly if I lose 1, 2, or all 3 HD's in my main PC. I'm not saying it's stupid or ill-advised to get a UPS, I just am not convinced it is worth it to me. I admit, I'm kind of stupid about this stuff.

Replacements are $15 from here. You may be too late to get in on this deal. If $9.99 + tax on $59 is too much, you probably ought to avoid this one anyway.

I think the point of the OP is, check the link I gave you, this unit sells for >$70.00 other places. Your average (not warrantied) power strip sells for ~$9.99 at Wally-Mart. Even if you don't give a flying flip about the battery backup, it's still better than your run-o-the-mill power strip for about the same cost. When the battery takes a crap, just don't replace it. The unit will work the same regardless. I would have bought 5 at that price, had I needed them (or thought I might need them in the near future). Once you have one of these and go through a 30 minute power outage, you'll wonder how you got by without one (for $9.99).

[edit]This one comes with an extra power strip and A-B USB cable.

After haunting a couple of UPS threads for a couple of days (including this one) I was up for getting in on this deal and called my local OD. They said they were out and the closest store that had one was around a 20 mile drive, each way. That would have been over a toll bridge and in the rain so I decided "next time." Thanks!!

ROLF,

after 2 years of rebate whoring.... I now own 4 UPSs

Energizer 325VA - in use $10 AR
IBM Office Pro 500VA - in use $20 AR
Conext 900VA - in box $10 out the door, no rebates!
APC 725VA - in box $10 AR

TOTAL MEGA POWER- 2450VA!!!!

lol, what am I going to do with all of these now? I am a sucker for the rebates!
😕

Unfortunately, my local Office Depot ran out of stock very quickly. I bought one of these earlier at Best Buy (I think it was the Black Friday sale) and mine buzzes. Does anyone know if there are any safety issues with the buzzing? Or is it just an annoyance?
