"The researchers make it clear they are not advocating government controls or intervention on population issues, but say they simply want to make people aware of the environmental consequences of their reproductive choices."
Ha ha ha ha

Juxtapose that against the fact that in 2011, coal plants in the US emitted1.7 billion tons of CO21. Billion. With a B

Yeah... that's 5.6 tons per American. If you "get" 9441/lifetime, then you get 110-130 per year. 5.6 is a small part of that. So coal power plants in the US is actually a small part of our total individual carbon footprint.

Coal is back baby! Those pesky pollution regulations, history! We are a fickle specie. Our environment subject to political whims and ignorance or indifference. The hubris.

while true, those ships probably move the cargo for a lower amount of co2 per ton/mile than other methods.

Any carbon we don't use will just get used by someone else. Screw that.

Every turn of the ignition, every light turned on, every glowing screen like this one, every exotic destination, every child we bring into the universe. The demands and desires of modernity demand pollution and greenhose gasses, and the forwarding of them.

Before man and modern machine, the earth had to get by on things like volcanoes and undersea gas plumes, and she got by fine. Even the mass extinctions and super-events, it could be argued, were beneficial because it all led up to the ascendancy of man, or does that mean they were less than beneficial, and a certain disaster for the non-human species. We win, fossil fuels win, corporations win, guns win, profits win, debt wins, politicians win. So much winning! And so much lost.

That's how much the average American is responsible for in their lifetime, 9,441 metric tons, every child we bring into the universe, our hopes, our continuing nightmare...

This all reminds me of how they said cows were a threat to the planet. Which has me remembering that epic George Carlin stand up on saving the planet. Carlin purports that we are nothing more than a surface nuisance and can be phased out now. LOL

My nephew's wife told me I have the smallest carbon footprint of anyone she knows. That was a couple years ago, it's actually shrunk. I breathe CO2.
