rossman, any thoughts on hostpc.com??? do they get your seal of approval?

No but they offer more realistic pricing. The Joe Mack, the owner of HostPC.com posts on AT as McDealer.

I was a happy HostPC customer until I upgraded to 10for10.com

Incase some of you didn't hear, DreamHost just started a deal where you get more hard drive space and bandwidth every week for as long as you're with them, and it's retroactive. For me, on the Level 3 plan, it's 60mb and 2gb a week. And I've been with them for like 6 months, so suddenly my drive space went up 1.3gb. It was pretty sweet. This just reinforces my belief that they're the best host I've ever had. Now if only I could get some more results with the referral link on my site ;P (omg, they give you so much for referrals it makes me cry T_T)

I registered four domains and signed for the 1 year $30 hosting plan at HostPC. Everything was a breeze to setup. I haven't uploaded any content, yet.

The only thing I would warn people about is (at least in my case) they do not email you when the promotional period is up and they automatically charge your CC $120 for one full year's of usage upfront.

A simple email probably would have kept me a customer with them since it is my nephew's website that I have hosted, but I do not like websites who charge my card without asking or at least sending me some kind of email invoice letting me know they will be charging my card.

Interesting, and how do you host a website with P2P?

Well I'm actually paticularly pissed because I just checked out my account and I started it in Oct. '04, which means of course that I shouldn't be charged until Oct. '05...and yet it is July and I have a charge from Dreamhost for $119.40 😕

edit: Looks like it was a fraudulent account signed up with my card 3 months prior to me signing up, they have refunded the amount and closed down the site, so now I have a new card on the way and a scammer to track down 🙁

I signed up on June 22nd, and didn't see the thread til now (and actually I vaguely remember it from a couple months ago, but not enough to enter the promo code..which makes it worse)...what a bummer. I emailed them to ask if they would be willing to retroactively grant my promotional period..but no go. I also can't cancel cause I used paypal..(?!)

Just wanted to groan and warn anyone who liked the thought of the 97 day money-back guarantee that they should make sure NOT to use paypal 🙂

You should have the 9.24 price for the first year. Do you mean they charged you after that contract was up? Thanks, Agibby

You get charged 9.24 for the entire 'first' year. After that year, it automatically swaps to a yearly fee of $119.40. However, you can go into your control panel and turn off the auto-rebill settings in the system. You should then receive notification of a bill being due.

VERY, VERY good find / reminder!!!

Login to your DreamHost Account.
Billing / Make Payment - (un)click the box "I authorize DreamHost to charge this credit card on the 30th each month if I have a balance due."

Alternatively - Use a Virtual Account Numbers (VAN) - they can be limited both for amount and expiration. No CC that has expired is ever gonna' get charged!!!
